The Next Pope, Who Will He Be?

Finally we have the date for the next Conclave. A small electorate which will without doubt change history either for good, or for bad, comes together on Tuesday the 12th of March 2013.

It is estimated that there are 1.2 thousand million Roman Catholics in the world who will be waiting for the result of one of the world's most unique elections for the Papacy.

But who will he be?

Who knows? I'll just wait and see.

Guessing is pointless.

Is this post the end of your thread, Radix?

Latest Odds from Paddy Power are :

Archbishop Angelo Scola (Italy) 3/1
Cardinal Peter Turkson (Ghana) 7/2
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone (Italy) 9/2 [too old and carrying far too much baggage from the scandals]
Cardinal Odilo Scherer (Brazil) 8/1
Cardinal Marc Ouellet (Canada) 10/1
Cardinal Christoph Schonborn (Austria) 12/1 [too big a Medjugorje fan]
Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi (Italy) 14/1 [a real contender in my opinion]
Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco (Italy) 16/1
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle (Philippines) 20/1 [too young and inexperienced yet, but a front runner for next time]
Cardinal Timothy Dolan (United States) 20/1 [too loud and "American"]
Cardinal Leonardo Sandri (Argentina) 20/1
Cardinal Philippe Barbarin (France) 25/1
Cardinal Francis Arinze (Nigeria) 33/1
Cardinal Sean O'Malley (United States) 33/1
Cardinal Wilfrid Napier (South Africa) 33/1
Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga (Honduras) 33/1
Cardinal Mauro Piacenza (Italy) 40/1

But remember the old saying, "He who enters conclave as Pope leaves as Cardinal" - The advance favorites are rarely picked.

Given the demographics of the voting Cardinals, he'll most likely be European and most likely between 65-70 years old.

Also the Italians have about 25% of the Vote, so the only way it can be a non Italian Cardinal will be if the Italian vote is split (like it was last time, and Benedict was the compromise candidate)

Cardinal Brendan O'Connor (RTE Comic) 1000/1

My guess is on Seán Patrick O'Malley, or Peter Turkson.

Its a bit of Craic alright.

But I'd say the decision is made already now. However loadsa days to pitch and fight yet and it's anyone's guess.

White smoke on Wednesday is all I can bet. Wrongly, as usual Though!

Ouellet from Canada, or an Italian. Is my guess though.
