The lead story in today's Phoenix is entitled "Time to Call in Johnny's Guarantees". It points out that "his Real Estate Opportunities is effectively bankrupt having lost €1bn last year and having transferred €975m worth of its Irish loans to NAMA" and that "the taxpayer is now talking responsibilty for this company's banjaxed portfolio of properties".

They end "Nama (the taxpayer) has paid serious money to control of these loans and the first move should be to sell off the good stuff [...] and call in the personal guarantees put in by Johnny Ronan. Only after these have been paid should NAMA consider any future dealings with Ronan and [partner Richard] Barrett.

I always thought NAMA was for the banks and not companies?
if the banks held the loans they may have gotten ruthless with their clients, much easier for FF to facilitate their FFriends by relieving the banks of the non performing loans and sit them on the tax payer

expect some sort of pardon scheme to be introduced by NAMA and the FFriends will be forever grateful

It was never going to be another way.

Viva ZANU-FF ...... they know the peasants will comply

She could always travel Ryanair although I dunno how she would fit a couple of Gucci gunas and her swimsuits in a backpack!

Won't someone please think of the children?

Not only has 22-year-old James, the Nama-bound developer’s youngest son, decided to appeal a refusal to allow him to build a five-bedroom mansion on the grounds of his father’s Enniskerry estate; this week he changed his Facebook profile to show a picture of him play-acting in a wheelchair.

In the same week that thousands of disabled people took to the streets to protest at proposed cuts to vital respite care, James Ronan changed his profile picture to one of him sitting with his legs astride a wheelchair facing the wrong way, and drinking a bottle of Heineken with no hands.
At the 21st party of his eldest son John, held in 2003 in a marquee at the family home, Mary Harney was one of the guests. It has also emerged that John, also in the property game, may also be bound for Nama. They are believed to be the first father and son pairing to have their businesses absorbed into the toxic loans agency.

Accounts filed for John’s company Ashwalk Ltd show he has an overdraft of €7.9m and only €2,400 in the bank. Ashwalk, a firm set up with a friend, was granted permission last year to build nine luxury flats in a five-storey building on a green space at the junction of Appian Way and Upper Leeson Street. The deal was backed by Anglo Irish Bank.
These are the kind of people Ireland's 'Smart Economy' needs, so hands off the Ronans!

Johnny Ronan is a f**king parasite. Scum.
You're parasite scum. He has added employment and tax revenue to this country. What have you contributed?

The ordinary poor man's developer who isn't over the 5 million euro NAMA limit is being chased to the end of the earth by the banks.

But over 5 million euro, into which most FF developers fall, it's business as usual, and it appears no problem getting new credit either.

Fianna Fail are without question the most corrupt political party in the history of democracy anywhere. And they are completely and utterly incorrigible.

But I blame the retards who voted FF at the last 3 elections and will at the next election. They are equally to blame for the mess we are in.

Tax revenue and employment based on debt not on sustainable economic activity.

The employment and revenue are now gone. The debt remains.

Why havent the Phoenix been writing about this since 2005?

Clue:

Those gob********************es were in a unique position to do so and they did nothing.

Instead they wasted everyones time writing stupid playground pieces about other newspaper editors and what was going on in the Ballydefrack arts council meetings. Fk all use them writing about what happened now.
They're no better than the other papers in the state.

You sir are an idiot.

I'm a tax payer and yes and like me, all tax payers have now been shafted with Ronan's debt while he gets to live life on the hog in any exotic destination to top up on his sun tan and his son gets to ride around on wheelchairs in more drunken pranks.

Has anyone bothered to research REO or CREO before posting that this man is scum?

Ronan will be the least of Nama's worries.

Assets in London and China just about beat Laois and Longford!

Barrett is a shrewd enough fellow. They'll come out the other side of this - much to the average Irishpersons dismay
