As the state comes dipping into your pockets for yet more this week it is nice to know that the money is being spent wisely.

Nearly 2 million euros has been paid out to former FF (and GP) politicians in the past two years. People like Mary Hanafin (sacked by her employers in DL) received over €50,000 for the privilege.

John McGuinness - forever complaining about small incremental increases for the lowest paid in the public service - received over €61,300. Hypocrite.

Mary Hanafin (51k+).... Still can't get my head around the fact that she brought her Mam into the Dail.... The mother took a tumble and ended up suing the state for damages....

Looks like the Hanifins are still screwing the system.

It is sickening, considering the mess they made of the country. Unfortunately the system dosen't make a distinction between service and outright treason. I wish it did and that Cowen and Ahern could be retrospectively stripped of all their ill-deserved entitlements.

"On 22 April 2009 he was appointed Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with special responsibility for Labour Affairs. On 23 March 2010, following a cabinet reshuffle, responsibility for Public Service Transformation was added to his role."

Appointed 2009..............severance in 2011 of nearly €34,000

Shower of ***** politicians.

I think the figures quoted in op are for one year only, payments were split over years 2011, 2012. Therefore the figures for Calleary is 53, 000. In fairness it must be pointed out that Michael martin refused severance payment of 90, 437, Brendan Smith and Eamon O Cuiv refused 76, 663. John McGuinness got about 61,000.

Figures were released in reply to PQ by Mary L. McDonald, SF.

Completely agree.

Can you visualise a situation where a CEO of a private company had run it into the ground, thrown thousands of employees out of work, put it into receivership and still continued to draw a massive pension, along with a large redundancy payment, out of its coffers.

Politics is truly a corrupt profession where ethics have become non-existent.

I thought the Hanafins didn't like screwing of any kind. Unless it was within wedlock of course...
