The Sinn Féin alternative - a growing consensus

This article, published today in the Financial Times (no less!), predicts the growth of Sinn Féin in the south.

FT.com / Europe - Sinn Féin poised to benefit from Irish crisis

It states that, “many commentators believe the party is well positioned to exploit the public anger at the financial meltdown.”
“The simmering discontent fuelled on Thursday by the sight of officials from an EU-IMF technical mission entering the Department of Finance in Dublin will potentially play to the advantage of Sinn Féin”
Sinn Féin would provide “a real alternative to the consensus for cuts being pushed by the other parties”

This is only the latest of a raft of positive press for the party in recent weeks and the consensus is starting to firm up that Sinn Féin is a genuine alternative to either a FF/Green or FG/Labour government.
With a recent poll in Donegal showing SF on a whooping 40 per cent, with Adams audaciously risking his political future in Louth, with articulate and capable Sinn Féin candidates outperforming their Labour rivals in the media (think Wave Man v Pearse Doherty), with economists such as Michael Taft endorsing our pre-budget submission, with people growing more disillusioned by the EU/FF/FG/Labour right wing agenda by the hour… have reports of our demise been greatly exaggerated???

SF will never get into government, although they have a little support the feeling with those who do not support them is not apathy but hatred.
No other party would consider them in coalition as it would ruin their reputation.
They have no history in government in the Republic and this makes them a fringe party with no experience.
Even if they had all the answers, a magical way of solving all the problems - it won't matter as they simply aren't trusted by the vast majority of people in the south.

SF will never rule this country - I personally despise them, and would leave the country rather than live under them. They have only populous politics to fall back on and too many of their mates are hard-nosed criminals, both north and south.

Hmmm. I feel and could say exactly the same thing about Fianna Fáil.

SF have put forward an excellent budget strategy though.

And you don't think the shower of thieving lying bastards we have now are not hard-nosed criminals, both north and south.

I have never voted for SF. Never dreamt I would but by God, I'm getting there.

1,"Never" is a long time,isn`t it?

2,And I hate asking this question. Are we still a country or a modern day vassal state?

3,Ingersoll don`t answer the above.Because for both of us this is one of those times that sticks in the craw.

It would not be unthinkable to see Sinn Fein overtaking Fianna Fail in the next opinion poll. However it still would have a long way to go before being a major party.

Sinn Fein is the only party that has not betrayed the Irish people. We have given our blood, sweat and tears for this country, our beloved Eireann. We fought for Ireland in 1798, 1803, 1916, 1969-1997, and so on. The gods must be so ashamed to see the state of our island now. We need their blessings now. I will vote for Sinn Fein and will never stop voting for Sinn Fein because I believe in them and I believe that they will sell our freedom for cash, freedom we fought and died for!

SF are the same as FF, the difference being that its only recently they decided to drop the armalite and concentrate on the ballot box. They took the government to court only in Donegal coincidentally the only by election where they have a chance of taking the seat. All for the will of the people as long as its the will of the people that suits them. Sound familiar?

SF might not be worse than FF at this stage in some respects but they are equally a party of cronies and backsliders. Bertie conned the electorate and maybe SF can do the same with a small minority of the electorate. SF will have to spend at least another twenty years respecting democracy alone before they can be trusted, at that stage maybe the crook element will be weeded out - thats if SF still exist by then. There is far too much in the SF closet once SF put their sneaky heads above parapet and SF would want to very careful about presenting themselves as heroes of the Republic, SF are nothing of the sort.

It surprises me greatly, but I find myself considering them as a possibility for the first time in my life. I'd say many others are starting to think the same.

First of all I have not got much doubt that is a lie. Second of all where does the money go? The party is it? Ha! So the SF PR machine skim money from the exchequer to fund their PR and then claim they are all on the average wage just like Tesco till people do they? Very FF. Great propagandists, not much good for the country, just like FF. The the only socialists in the Dail is it? Please explain why you accept such obvious spin, we have had enough of Bertie talk ok? If you are a SF insider you you know whats in the closet, don't blame the messenger.
