Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates give a unique take on the big stories of the day with a
panel discussion covering topics that has the country talking.

This is the new-look The Tonight Show.

Confirmed: Ivan Yates and Matt Cooper will be taking over from Vincent Browne

Not a lot of news on the tv3 schedules, for example, we don’t know yet whether Ivan or Matt is presenting this week starting Tuesday 19th September 2017.

Expected popcorn rating:

And forget about a new logo ... Vinny still appears in any I have found on d'internet. I’ve set this up as a ‘general’ thread, it can just run ..... and run ... and run..

Fair dues Norman, your reward will probably come in the next life ( of course, with suspensions and controversies in Mr Redacted's Empire, maybe if you don a dress, you might be a leading player yet!) LOL

I saw the promo and thought thank f*** TV3 are refreshing this... because it had gotten beyond tedious with Vinnie and his ramblings surrounded by his red set etc.

I'm sure Cooper and Yates will give it a good stab... but I don't doubt it will get pretty stale pretty fast regardless...

I thought I read that they are going to be co-presenters, not taking turns

...... a double-header each night, Yates confirmed, and it will continue to go out between 11pm and midnight. Cooper added that they planned to keep the best aspects of the old ‘Tonight’ but build on its success and “add different things”.
The Twitter Machine will return, fans of the #vinb hashtag can be assured. Cooper promised a “very strong social media aspect”.
'I don't think the content of what we cover will be affected by the gender of the presenters'

Ivan - never shy to start something new.

Yates was once the youngest politician in the Dáil. He became a Fine Gael politician when he had just turned 21 because he was “bored” in the evenings. At that stage, he was so far removed from politics that he had to look up Fine Gael in the Yellow Pages because he didn’t know anyone in the party. Then, in a unique career move, Yates decided to retire from politics at the age of 41 to become a bookie. He now has 63 outlets in his business, Celtic Bookmakers.

A direct descendant of John Jameson, the famous whiskey maker, Yates hails from Enniscorthy, County Wexford. He comes from a Protestant family who had no affiliation to any political party; indeed they were “a little disdainful of politics” and he believes that because his predecessors had a “strong entrepreneurial genetic makeup,” he was more suited to being a businessman than a politician.

Educated in St Mary’s Church of Ireland National School, Yates’ parents moved him to Aravon Preparatory boarding school in Bray when he was eight. He spent his teens in St. Columba’s College. When his father became terminally ill with cancer, Yates left school, aged 16, and went to Gurteen Agricultural School where he learned about “drink, sex, gambling and everything like that.”

He worked on the family farm for two years. “It was hard manual work. But in the evening I was somewhat bored.” In school he had been successful at debating and was interested in current affairs so he decided to get involved in politics.

Political career

Yates had “always had a bit of a hankering after politics.” He says, “I wasn’t a socialist so that ruled out the Labour Party and the left and my parents weren’t in the GPO in 1916 so I decided that I would join Fine Gael.”

The young recruit became one of Garett FitzGerald’s liberal-minded Fine Gaelers.
