I see not a word was mentioned in the budget about the two elephants in the room.
The Promissory note and croke park/PS inflated pay and pensions.

The only people happy tonight are the high paid civil servants, bankers and our ridiculously over paid politicians.

FG/Lab looking after their buddies.

And to think Eamon Gimmiemore claimed to be a socialist at one time! lol!

What do you expect from a bunch of freeloaders, more than half of these guys were in the political graveyard before FF handed them the trough, they're a bunch of hasbeen dimwits who only know how to screw the system, the civil servants fill in the rest.

Why would public servants be happy? They have faced all the tax increases applied to other paye workers and unlike many in the private sector have suffered significant cuts to pay recent years. Usual baseless bull************************ about public servants being protected.

Social welfare is the real elephant in the room my friend. It is half of public spending.

Did Noonan mention the promissory notes today?
Did Noonan get that letter of intent on the PN's from europe he wanted for today?

I think NO on both accounts above.

It is an absolute disgrace -now,the sooner the better that Somebody musters up a huge protest of parents of young children, middle income families who are being screwed to the wall ,the better. We can no longer afford to sit back on our collective arses ,watching X factor and having a few bevvies -we have to act Now before this government runs the whole country into the ground -no more listening to Noonan's lies about the country at long last "seeing some light".he is lying through his back teeth-every economist in the country agrees that our debt is unsustainable -Ate you prepared to face three or four more budgets like today whilst our TDs ,Ministers ,high paid civil servants and bankers do not suffer any pain? Let's show that we have more guts than they have -we can only take so much and today's budget was the tipping point .Please think of the legacy that you will be leaving your children and grandchildren if you take today's budget lying down .

Everyone knows there will be no deal done on the bank debt sure they are already using the fact we are at the head of the EU next year as an excuse why they won't be able to do anything. As for PS pay don't make me laugh. The unions have the government in their pockets. Why do you think we are'nt seeing any protests of any substance. The PS have been bought off to stay quiet.

We've been hearing this tune since March 2012.

31st March 2013 will mark the 4th successive payment of €3.1 billion.
Fourth?

There was a payment in 2011

The payment in 2012 was a rollover, so not really a net payment.

When was the third?

My mistake.
31st March 2013 will represent the third successive payment €3.1 billion.

The payment in 2012 was a rollover, so not really a net payment.
What?

""The ECB takes note of today's announcement of the minister of finance of Ireland regarding the government's intentions on the payment of the promissory notes due on Friday the 30th of March 2012.

It is very important that the Irish state will honour the 3.06 billion euro amortisation of the promissory notes. This will reduce the emergency liquidity assistance which IBRC receives from the central bank of Ireland and thus the Eurosystem.

We certainly expect that also in the future the promissory notes will be served according to the schedule to which the government has committed itself.

As Ireland strives to regain market confidence, it is of utmost importance that the commitments of the Irish state are met in line with standing contracts and agreements.

The Eurosystem has provided unprecedented support for the Irish banking sector. The objective should be to reduce over time the reliance of Irish banks on central bank funding and in particular on the emergency liquidity assistance."
