How are you so sure we need more houses? This text is nonsensical. We need more houses. What's your alternative? More tents?
[We have one of the lowest amount of people per house in the world right now and we have lots of empty houses.
In Cork there are 269 people living in emergency accommodation, while there are 21,287 vacant housing units. In Dublin, there are 3,247 people in emergency accommodation and 35,293 empty units.
And that is just one local authority.
Eleven people are squeezed into a two-bed owned by Dublin City Council. Meanwhile, there are just three people living in a council-owned five-bed.
Very few people who pay for their own house live one person per house and their 17 year old daughters don't go out and have a baby and then demand free house but the 'homeless' and the old people in council houses are looking for that privilege.
If people were willing to better utilise resources there wouldn't be an issue but no politician would dare to suggest that.
The point I am making is that from the Green perspective we should be building less stuff and making do with what we have instead of always expanding our footprint on the planet and not everyone trying to grab whatever they can get.
Have they forgotten what they're supposed to stand for?
