The woman who was arrested after walking around Saudi Arabia like she lived in the west was arrested quickly enough but it turns out she as been left go as quickly.

Well after 7 hours of questioning by the police about wearing suggestive clothing she got left go... mainly because of the optics abroad apparently.

It provoked a storm in Saudi Arabia with men and brainwashed women condemning her loose morals. Apparently this area is a conservative part of Saudi Arabia which says something if that differentiates them as worse than the part that won't let women even into a car.

I'd humbly propose that once again we see that in a society where a woman could be questioned for hours for wearing a skirt that this is not equivalent to saying the hijab is misogynistic and should be banned.

Sometimes in a situation we just have to side with the secularists even when we feel uncomfortable doing so. Saudi Arabia was wrong to arrest that woman and it's full of conservative reactionaries. Phew, it's good to be able to actually talk about this type of thing like a socialist and not be falling over oneself explaining why no rights is the new right.

Saudi does not claim to be a liberal society, Europe does. Therefore their intolerance does not justify comparable intolerance on our part.

Walking around bollock naked in Saudi Arabia 50 degrees plus heat is asking for trouble, sunstroke for sure, death likely, ladies don't do it, just say no

Probably because we were anglicized later than others...or maybe we were less enthusiastic about being anglicised?
Left it go, left it go...probably appropriate that Frozen wouldn't work on a Saudi thread

See, I think your missing the point. South Africa didn't claim to be a liberal society but for some reason people didn't spend all day patting each other on the back in Europe because hey didn't have an apartheid system (though in one certain place it was close). The absolute fear of offending someone has leapt in so that when a lady gets arrested for wearing a skirt we can't even agree that it's messed up.

Saudi Arabia isn't liberal. It's a woman hating mess. People who want to replicate the same social controls in Europe are not on the same side as you and there not liberals.

Being magnanimous enough to back the rights of your enemy, as a progressive liberal, is impressive but it can also border defending the wrong people.

Still, they were backwards to do it or is that not culturally sensitive sensitive enough?

Forgive me but I cannot be bothered being culturally sensitive when it involves pretending women having no rights is okay. That's the new left. I am old school.

You got the wrong guy - I'm notorious around these parts for not being PC and quite happily offending all and sundry. But if we claim to be a liberal society that should determine how we treat those who dress differently. The practices in Saudi should not influence us or dilute our liberalism. Anyway she must be a right fukkin eejit to do what she did.

Putting up a video of herself dressed in a mini skirt in Saudi Arabia is only asking for trouble.

Good for you for ignoring the PC bull************************ but I have sympathy with her since I think if my missus was there should she be restricted the same way.

If a black fellow from America visited apartheid South Africa would he have been an eejit to walk around as if he were white. Probably, but he'd be still in the right just like she was an eejit to think she had the same rights as a man but still she is right.

As socialists we're quick to get involved in fighting the oppression of Palestinians even though it's abroad but when it's the oppression of women abroad then ...

I'm sure she got her legs tanned for this.
That's women for you. Always using their bodies to lure men from the narrow path of rightousness.
I watched the video several times and detected the same.
