Today Minnesota become the twelfth state to pass gay marriage equality after the senate passed a final vote, it follows Delaware which passed marriage on May 7th, and Rhode Island which passed marriage equality on May 2nd, this means that 24% of the states have marriage equality. If you include the nation's capital and calculate on a 51 "state" model, then that moves the percentage up over 25%.

My comments:

1) Very well done Minnesota, Delaware and Rhode Island!!

2) However the right wing like to see it they are slowly but surely loosing the battle!!

3) Though this is great it is a fluke for three states to pass marriage equality in such a quick succession and it will entrench the anti gay marriage supporters more in the other states!!

4) it will also cause pro marriage equality supports to get out there and change minds and votes, in those states which are on the edge or have anti gay marriage laws!!!

Until it happens in a red or swing state I wouldn't read too much into it as far as demonstrating there has really been a sea-change. SO far it's only traditional blue states. No purple or red states yet. Polls in Ohio still show the people there opposed for example. I welcome the passage of the legislation anyway. Bigotry must be rooted out. Homophobic attitudes and victimisation destroy lives.

While this is good news, I think they are running out of states where the legislature and/or the courts can bring it in. Most of the remaining states have constitutional (state) bans. A few states in November's elections introduced it but it was only this time last year that North Carolina voters in a referendum passed a ban.

In 50 years anti-gay marriage activists will be looked upon the same way that anti-Civil Rights activists were in the 1960s.

At least I won't be ashamed when I tell the next generation which side of the fence I stood on.

Isn't this debate more about the rights of people who like to sit on the fence post?
