Merkel retreats from corporate tax stance - RT News

The kind of concerted pressure that had been speculated doesn't seem to be happening. According to the Irish Times today it's hard to see what the motivation would be for pushing such a move from the IMF, European Commission or the ECB so it's only individual governments who could push the issue.

Raising corporation tax would only reduce our ability to repay loans so it would seem that settling a long running score with a few other EU nations would be the only motivation.

Merkel's got a choice: offer a quid pro quo to us.

A €7bn loan to us at 3.5% interest, and we should agree to put up our corpo tax by 5% in 2015.

Or, we could go for broke: offer Microsoft, Siemens, Pfizer et al a 1% tax rate, but only if they immediately transfer the majority of their operations here. NAMA certainly has all the office space they could possibly need.

If we can't raise the money, to pay back her banks she will be in trouble at home she's just looking after herself. This isn't the end of this yet.

We will defend our sacred corporation tax with blood
(from our low/medium-income workers)

Back off Brussels!! We'll keep our tax loopholes open, even if it means the poor starve on our streets!!
