Surely there is an urgent need for some party to put down a motion of no Confidence in the Government, since the IMF have had to come in ? We need a General Election now.

Absolutely.
Labout / FG make it happen.

The people will back you.

The election has effectively been called for the end of January. All the rest is posturing.

Its all irrelevant, we are up the creek without a paddle, whatever happens the budget will go through, if all else fails, FG will abstain on the budget even if polling day is the day after.

Good news if he does, but I suspect Q-Tours may be right that SF will do it, as they bring Doherty into the Dail ... next Tuesday ?

It's very relevant. Every day of FF in power is just another opportunity to F*ck things up even more.

Sinn Fein should introduce the motion, they will get support from the people.
Logically, you would think they will, though we'll see what FG do tomorrow. If they expect SF to do so, they might as well steal a march on them.

FG or Labour should put down the no confidence motion, make the greens, JHR, Michael Lowry, and the dissident FF backbenchers go through the lobby and vote for Clowen.
It would just be the ultimate irony.!! How could they explain this on the doorstep.

Election now.!!!!!

Absolutely correct, and if Charlie Flanagan was talking about it, then he should do it this morning. Let's put it up to Lowry and the likes of Sean Power.

As an aside, the whole premise of HAVING to get the budget through, was based on us having to go back to the Bond markets, in Feb or March. That is no longer necessary now, so we have time to go to a GE and get the stability the country needs.

So the question now is, will it be FG or the Shinners, or will Gilmore steal a march on them again ? ;)

Logically yes.

Though its also becoming very clear that SF will be a major threat over the next decade in elections, taking support from ff and Labour in particular.

So don't expect the 'national interest' to include backing anything SF will suggest/do in the current crisis.

Excellent point and so obvious. Why is this budget being even considered? If it is so important why is an election at all relevant given that the next 10+ years will be dominated by what this and subsequent budgets will mean?

FF should take FF out. FF TDs who want Cowen out should table a motion of no confidence along with Independents and the Green Party. However, none of them will. They are all cowards and are frankly intimidated by Brian Cowen.

I think this may where FG and Labour may be coming from - it makes sense.

One other thing is that I was delighted to hear Richard Bruton on TV3 this morning, state that FG and Labour have been in discussions behind the scenes, so they should be able to hit the ground running after the GE.

Lets hope this happens and the sooner the better.

How can anyone out there think about re-electing the rats that are jumping ship since the Green's public statement yesterday. Sean Power, Barry Andrews, JHR, Lowry and the list go on and on.
