This is bullying plain and simple by IAC who also own Plenty of Fish and more https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAC_(company)

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/may/23/tinder-sues-threesome-app-rival-3nder
It wants its smaller competitor to shut down and erase its presence from the web entirely to avoid “confusion” between the two apps, claiming the alleged similarity gives 3nder an “unfair advantage”.
Tinder sues to shut down 3nder, the dating app for open-minded singles and couples, in lawsuit over name | Pressat
Despite these differences and Tinder's lack of ownership of the letters “nd(e)r” (see also: Adult Friend Finder, Grindr), the company continues to attack 3nder during a time of explosive growth for the start-up.

Our founder works 12 hours a day. Now that this fight is happening, he has to work whenever he is not asleep (around 16 hrs daily maybe?). Naturally, he will forget to do his laundry so all his socks (and his girlfriend’s) are dirty. He sent them to Tinder (say Yuck).
Larger companies that take these lawsuits should be heavily penalised on failure, in the meantime, I'm arranging the shipping of a crate or so of smelly socks

This is "lawfare". (The guy who build Plenty Of Fish used to post on one of the main webmaster boards. It was amazing how he built the site.)

TBF, its probably given Thrinder/Three-inder/Three-ender more publicity than it would have otherwise got. Smart move.

More interestingly none of them have been able to replicate the success of Grindr, though my gay friends tell me Grindr is now old hat. It had got to the point where all the boys at the bar were checking out the site on their mobiles instead of checking out the ass of the guy stood right next to them.
