McGuinness will no doubt be pretending he is not, nor ever has been, a member of FF.

McGunniess' spiritual awakening magically started when he lost his ministerial position.

Before this turns in to another anti PS rant thread. Please observe where the PS waste is occuring. Ask yourselves at what level could it be controlled and prevented. Please dont compare Ministers and their senior advisors to public sector workers. If you work in the private sector think what you would be able to do if your boss was a complete moron who got to their position through seniority and professional arse licking. Please focus on what part of the PS is to blame. We are not all the same just like the private sector does not consist of Bankers and developers.
When you look for 25-50% cuts across the board remember that you are talking about people who are mostly on less than 40k with mortgages and families.

+1 as a private sector worker, I agree what you are saying.

It is the waste and overstaffing/duplication of work/quangos excess/use of agencies/consultancy "experts" and of course overpaid high earning civil servants/politicians etc that needs reform...but does this mean the end of croker..me thinks yes, which includes compulsory redundancies with reform done fairly, with an emphasis on efficiency and best working practices.

PS I am not a PS basher, just want a good service for our buck and in these times the UNIONS domination and CROKER aint the way forward (going forward of course as we turn the corner).

Hear hear! The reality is that budgeting procedures and pet projects are the major source of waste.

The U.K. is making half a million public servants redundant. They are not saying they are all wasters. They are saying they cannot afford them.

Il start by saying I don't like bashing the PS
But I don't believe the sector can continue to act and talk as one big block.
It needs to be looked at where the real waste is rather then just cuts across the board.

I think that when there is talk of cuts there are some sections of the PS that are happy to hide behind the 'frontline' services when really they are the ones that take weeks and months to process a form or a passport. Workers that think its OK to not answer phones or even reply to a member of the public. ( I sometimes think that some these offices are deliberately allowed to do a half assed job, just so Gombeen TDs have someone's medical card to sort for them. Would it really surprise any of us at this stage ? )

Everyone knows where people have dragging their heals for years but when we hear public sector we're told the nurses do great work and have taken enough pain but no one speaks of the VECs that are late processing 3rd level grants every year or the people in the SW offices that refuse to answers phones.

If people see their wages get hit repeatedly while the bosses take little cuts at all. Why don't they speak out against it ?
Why do they then continue to wheel out the low paid and people just in the door to talk to the camera while
we never see their managers on the pickets ?
They need to speak independently or the axe will always be swung over all of them whether they deserve it or not...
The Unions don't give hoot.

It is not frontline PS that is to blame but they are the ones suffering most, an amazing Country when the people that do the jobs are scarificed in favour of the folk that talk about how jobs should be done rather than adding value themselves.

ah the poor little darlings.

how do they cope earing more than 80% of the population ?

even the bloody clerical officers blair horan was trying to pimp out as being "poor low paid workers" at the top of their grade are paying 42% tax FFS.

Quit with the mythmaking, benchmarking vastly overinflated the average PS wage and now the property taxes that funded it is gone its payback time.

thats whats going on here, its not an "attack" on the PS its the inevitable consequence of getting locked on the property gravy train money.

I find it almost amusing that those in favour of cuts in the ps and those against both hate the Croke park agreement. Those in favour of cuts claim it to be a union conspiracy to insulate the ps from the real world. Those who don't want cuts see it as a government/big business attempt to shaft workers in a Trojan horse approach. It truly is a red headed stepchild of an agreement. For my own perspective I voted against it on the basis that it would shaft lower paid and shift workers over higher paid 9 to 5 ers

in the ps its not the frontline or lower paid workers that are the problem. the problem is with the over paid and underworked upper management. no one in our ps should be on more then 80 grand tops...cut the top wages to meet that.if they dont like it ************************ off. after that benchmark wages to meet the dropped levels in the private sector. ps workers were benchmarked against private workers when times were good so now times are bad they must be cut as well.
