A survey of hotels carried out over a four-month period by industry magazine Hospitality Ireland revealed that 60% were willing to provide direction on where best to secure the services of an escort, mainly women, providing a wide range of sexual services for as much as €400 per hour.

Posing as a business customer the magazine asked the concierge or relevant member of staff to recommend a reputable escort agency for a “business associate” that would be staying at the hotel in a few weeks’ time....
“Responses from hotels included the supply of names of escort agencies, advice from staff about searching for escorts on the internet and, in some instances, offers from the staff member to arrange the rendezvous with the escort on the behalf of the caller,” said the industry magazine....
The concierge’s section at the Jurys Croke Park hotel told the Irish Examiner, in the guise of a businessman seeking details: “I can’t give information over the phone, but when you are here we will try to look after you then.

“You can get all the information from ** ****** magazine or from the internet, but the numbers keep changing on there.”

I think we'd be very bothered if the hotels were offering say advice on services that say
- kidnapped girls and delivered them to hotel for rape
though these services would describe themselves as coyly on their websites as do the escort sites

Fact is I don't think people are bothered by escort agencys (as against street prostituion which the accompanying photo in the Examiner suggests).

Has there been any recent surveys on this in Ireland ?

I was staying in a top hotel on the quays in Dublin a few months ago, and in the lift on the way down to breakfast, to breakfast, a foreign female concierge asked me did 'i want fun in the room?'! I declined and then ran out of the lift at a hundred miles an hour! It seemed to me to be an official unofficial service, operated on a nudge nudge, wink wink basis with the knowledge of that hotel's management! I'd say there's more than a few exploited and unwilling Eastern European girls involved..

The State should get out of the bedrooms of consenting adults. Ireland is 20 yrs behind the rest of Europe in terms of sex.

The question is all about consent. Can a woman forced to sell her body through coercion or economic circumstances or addiction be said to freely consent. If not then we are dealing with a heinous criminality facilitated by hotels.

Should we turn a blind eye?

Well if she's rich and has no pimp she is certainly giving consent. Most of us work because of economic circumstances is that consent? Forcing something into prostitution in the literal sense of that word I condemn. But I don't care how an adult makes a living as long as it doesn't harm others and is taxed so wider society can benefit. And you make the classical feminist mistake of assuming all adult sex-workers are female. Why should adult men not be allowed sell sexual services?

You mean I have 20 years worth of sex owing to me by the state?!

WOHOO!

In theory I've no problem with this, but given the circumstances of how these women became escorts it is concerning.
While you would imagine that these so called "top hotels" (I wouldn't include Jurys Croke park in that description) would be using reputable (should such a thing exist, but you know what I mean) escort agencies, but then again, seeing how they treat many of the very top hotels in this country treat their staff than I'm not so sure.

I once bought an escort from a woman for 200 quid but I crashed it and nearly killed myself.

You fool, you blew a great opportunity.
While you were only looking for porridge, tea & toast, she was obviously looking for the "full irish".
