Fox News is reporting that President Trump has expressed regret about immigration from "s---hole countries" during talks on Thursday with lawmakers in the Oval Office.

Apparently, Haiti, El Salvador and African countries are the targets of his contempt. He'd rather have people from Norway.

I dont think he was making a racial point. Maybe a point that these source countries are forever in an economic and political mess.

On that basis, I'm not sure that many Norwegians will be rushing across the Atlantic to the USA.

He made a good point about how immigration from Europe should be allowed more. The 1965 Immigration Act effectively reweighted immigration to the US as coming from unstable parts of the world, with the consequent importation of the political trends of those countries into the US. Ireland may have been unstable for some of the 1800s, but when the Irish went to the US in the 1800s the welfare state was generations away so they had to work. But now if you are an illegal you are entitled to (depending on the state e.g. NY) to driving licenses - which can be abused to circumvent restrictions on voting rights using the Motor Voter Law.

Maybe the US should take the lead from Ireland on this. How many immigrants from these countries does Ireland take in?

"Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people,” said Raj Shah, the principal deputy White House press secretary.

Interestingly, Mr Shah's parents were immigrants from India.

Pull that ladder up

Yes but I doubt India is one of the countries Trump is talking about. They are not a terror supporting country unlike Pakistan.

The story here is the word he used. So yes, not referring to countries as "s---holes" would be a good lead to take.

Dead right.

This should be Irish policy too and nothing waycist about it.

Excellent comment. Haven't laughed as much at one of his statements since the Pocahontas one, hopefully the ivory tower liberals are just as annoyed this time as well.

Remember, his 'muslim ban' had more support than was acknowledged in the media

By a narrow 48 - 42 percent, American voters support "suspending immigration from terror prone regions, even if it means turning away refugees."

By a broader 53 - 41 percent, voters support requiring immigrants from Muslim countries to register with the federal government.

Trump is great entertainment
Pure click bait. That said, I kinda liked it a couple of months ago, when it looked, albeit briefly, that we would have an election over the Franny Fitzgerald thingy. We were getting lots of threads about an Irish election and were down to 2-3 Trump threads on the main page.

Now its back to the usual 5-7 Trump threads.

Here is the next one "Trump breaks wind - markets react nervously"

Ah c'mon NYCKY, that is pure whataboutery.
It was a pig ignorant thing for anyone to say, gob smacking for a POTUS

And yes, he draws an inordinate amount of coverage, but what the hell are news outlets meant to do?

Today alone
Praises himself on weekly jobs report, confusing an increase in jobless with jobs
Says he sold F52 fighters, when in fact they are fictional video game jets.
Started dissing his own surveillance bill after watching FOX
And now calls poor black (oh yes, let's not just gloss over that one) countries "sh*tholes"

What news outlet wouldn't report on such stupidity and ignorance in a POTUS?
