Trump says he's inclined to back bipartisan plan in Congress to ease US ban on marijuana, mostly shift laws to states.

This puts Trump at odds with his AG Jeff Sessions, who has promised to enforce federal drug laws (which happen to outlaw marijuana which is legal in 26 states).

Again, credit where it’s due.

I have no interest in smoking cannabis but this is long overdue.

Politically it’s very smart: it takes a major issue away from the Democrats coming into the mid terms and annoys Jeff Sessions who he wants rid of.

That the point, he wants a new AG. this is a great way of pushing him out so he can make some crazy ike Giulliani AG to fire Rosenstein etc

Idiot Trump never has any idea what his position is on anything.

Next week he could be back to agreeing with Sessions. Or maybe he thinks he is agreeing with Sessions.

That would be the very same Jeff Sessions that he appointed.

What a circus idiot Trump is running.

Indeed.
However, a lot of his voters are strongly in favour of states rights.
Remember, he's not legalising it, but effectively decriminalising it on a federal level.
A positive move regardless.

Pence recently stated he believed marijuana was just as dangerous as heroin.
Let's hope his opinion on this is kept way in the background.

Trump expected to appoint White House lawyer as next DEA chief: report http://hill.cm/o9R3WFn

....Uttam Dhillon played a key role in discussions surrounding the Comey firing and special counsel's probe....
It also shows Trump is not racist as he is of Asian descent.

The US federal govt has a bizarre obsession with cannabis:

https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/why-admitting-to-cannabis-use-could-get-you-banned-from-u-s-for-life-1.3989441

Now you can be banned from entering the US for merely investing in legal US marijuana-related companies:

https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/why-investing-in-pot-could-pose-problems-at-the-u-s-border-1.4011813

Meanwhile, the real drug epidemic gathers pace on both sides of the border:

http://odprn.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/ODPRN-Report_Latest-trends-in-opioid-related-deaths.pdf

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-carfentanil-deaths-1.3887254

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/12/health/fentanyl-opioid-deaths/index.html

The authorities refuse to see that the more they crack down on opioids, the more they drive distributors to incredibly potent drugs that are harder to intercept. More overdoses are the inevitable result.
