It's an interesting story. Friedrich Trump, or Drumpf, or Trumpf, emigrated in 1885 as a young lad from Palatinate Bavaria to the US of A, went to the nearest gold rush, earned something in Seattle, then in Canada, selling food, drink and hiring out "sporting ladies" to the miners, and went on to buy property in New York. US citizen from 1892.

He went back to Palatinate Bavaria and re-applied for citizenship in 1904, but they realised he hadn't done his military service and expelled him from 1905. Subtle or what? The germans are experienced at enforced deportations.

Donald's mother was from the scottish western isles, and her father was a Gaelic-speaking fisherman. Sorry but that's as close as you'll get to JFK. Donald's dad was - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Trump

Merely the sort of instinctive entrepreneurialism that made America great.

When he goes to Germany on a state visit they can show him the place at the old border where his grandda was deported from.

There could be a plaque. 'Fred the national service dodger was booted out here'.

Yes the United States was founded on stealing other people's land.

I think the OP is just another pathetic attempt to expose Trump's alleged hypocrisy.
Well even Trump cannot be held responsible for the dodginess of his granddad in fairness.

The original Drumpf would have opposed the Swedish model judging by this.

Joe Kennedy was as involved with the mob in running booze down from Canada as Al Capone was.

And his two sons managed to reach President and Attorney General of the US respectively.

And Joe used to have dinner with the head of the New Orleans mob every Thursday.

Because exposing hypocrisy is always pathetic, innit?
You're missing the point, the man isn't a hypocrite but his attackers will try and portray him as one. Such as the OP who somehow wants Trump to take responsibility for the actions of his grandfather 100 years ago.

I like the claim that the locals are not anxious to see Donald any time soon. In Ireland, we'd be lambasting him and begging him to show up at the same time.

I think that the OP is just pointing out a story from Trump's family history.

I don't get from the post that there is any attempt to tie the grandfather's behaviour to Trump himself.

When did "entrepreneur" become such a dirty word?

It just interests me how money becomes respectable via being invested around kids. Joe Kennedy made his money out of Federal crime and was well acquainted with the Mafia as he used to supply their speakeasy systems with booze crossing the Canadian border. Trump's Grandda was a pimp.

If you look back far enough most of the 'old money' tied to elegance and social position nowadays was originally earned in the same sort of style.

Either way, Mr Trump will be President of America The fact that he has a business interests in Ireland we should use that to our advantage. We have been so blessed with our exemplary governments that I see we can afford to attack a foreign administration that we have no power over.

Well we at least now have the Irish connection. 'Mr President, your grandda was a pimp. As Cheann Comhairle allow me to introduce you to a houseful of hoors'.

Donald.
From the Gaelic name Domhnall meaning "Ruler of the World".
Trump.
From the Germam name Trumpf meaning "Triumph".

How cool is that?
