...and would Trump offer it?

Trump will be realising just how big this gig is.

Trump will be a one term President.

Trump will care about his legacy.

Trump won't care much about annoying Republicans.

Who better to be Secretary of State?

Would Obama do it, IF SUCH A SUGGESTION WAS LEAKED BY THE TRUMP CAMP?

Palin tipped for Interior Secretary which controls stare lands. She can then implant her "drill baby drill" energy policy.

He doesn't owe the party (GOP) anything but he does need them if he wants to achieve anything.

He will certainly be rewarding loyalists but he will be reaching out to opponents.

Can't imagine Trump offering a plum gig like this or even if offered that Obama would accept it.

There is an old protocol, well there was before Bill Clinton, and that was that when the POTUS left office, that they didn't interfere with their successors work.

They would give speeches, join Boards, write memoirs, build their libraries, turn up at conventions, state funerals etc. Occasionally, the sitting President would call them for advice about some particular conflict but do it discreetly.

Obamacare is about to die. GOP can use budget reconciliation to overcome the Senate filibuster

Yeah, but would Obama do it?

Imagine Trump leaking something like that...such a unifying statesman

Do you like the bould Ms. Coulter Field Marshall?

I had a friend so fond of her I bought him an Ann Coulter doll (yes they do make them!) as he already had all her books.

Rudy Giuliani? He and Chris Christie are close but Christie is brash probably too brash for secretary of state but it is the Donald

Not a hope.

You need a yuuuuge ego to become POTUS, something both Obama and Trump have. Why would Obama work for Trump? Remember Obama has a historic place in the books, much more than any ordinary POTUS.

Obama will be writing memoirs, fund raising for his library and his various pet projects. It's no secret that the ceremonial affairs of state irked him and can't see him wanting to turn up at EU/APEC/AU/Pac Rim summits for photo shoots and signing treaties that he disagrees with to please Trump.

Sec Def is perhaps the most important post (it can stop the crazy)
ODNI next

State unfortunately ... has little power of its own ... Obama over ruled Clinton and Kerry far too many times when they were right
