you really couldn't make this up
CIT want to buy a building in Cork and are bidding against UCC (without knowing it)

as a result, despite the asking price being 950k the CIT (aka the taxpayer) ends up paying €1.25 million!!

The more power and taxes you give the government, the more wastage you're going to have.
People who advocate higher taxes believe it's going to benefit them.
It doesn't. It simply benefits the existing system.

It’s Ireland, who financially benefited for this.

The pen pushers in our public sectors are paid, perked and pensioned to such a level they have absolutely no awareness of the value of other people's money!

The fault lies in the Department of Education where both of these bids would have been authorised from.

20 years ago two aircraft maintenance companies owned by Aer Lingus bid against one another for a contract for maintenance work on Chinese planes - it cost the company more than £2million - and turned out to be a disaster for the maintenance company that won the contract because of the guarantees they gave and the cost of fixing the problems with the planes.

This is what happens when opaqueness is the "normal routine".Is their no overseer in the Cork City planning/buying within Dept of Education ? Did people from each bidding institute have relatives/friends / acquaitances within the dept of Education , each Institute dealing with "Their insider in the Dept" who worked on their behalf. This is how the mafia runs the show in Italy. When the public deal is done the Insider gets a "kickback" from the Institute strictly off the books.
