UDA threat against Belfast journalist
UDA threat against Belfast journalist - BBC News

"Sunday World journalist Martin O’Hagan was shot dead in September 2001 by the loyalist paramilitary group, the Loyalist Volunteer Force."
https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/uda-threatens-belfastbased-journalist-36765700.html

This is very bad...

and some idiots on here suggest that "warnings" from loyalist paramilitaries should not be taken seriously
They really are slow learners. Probably no different than the disso scum who have not gone away.

Michelle O'Neill is right, if slightly amnesiac in her assertions. What with the good Republican needing the SCC recently.

Both sides need to get their democratic houses in order. But it is good that the DUP get some of the focus that SF always get.

I don't know what the NUJ in the area was like in 2001 when Martin O'Hagan was murdered but back in the mid '70's the convenor was an Orangeman called Sloan who was completely useless when it came to protecting members from intimidation.

Besides issuing a statement of condemnation, what exactly would you expect a union rep to do to protect the members ?

So one of the gangs the DUP briefed about the Stormont talks threaten a journalist.
Obviously the British government has no problem with the party that props it up briefing unionist terrorists but surely they would have something to say about one of the gangs that actively supports and campaigns for the party that props their government up threatening a journalist?

But then, we are talking about a British government here...

I don't see why the UDA are upset at somebody for pointing out the blindingly obvious, anyone with half a brain knows this stuff. It would be like the Mafia getting insulted over being described as a criminal fraternity.

People involved in paramilitaries in this day and age are nothing more than criminals.

They're not 'soldiers' or whatever else they pretend to be.

I don't like the DUP nor its dealings, along with SF, with the UDA via the company that Stitt heads up. Nor do I like the cosy relationship of DUP reps with "community leaders" in society. But this faux outrage of the existence of the UDA is something for iNats only. It's being spun by iNats like you and Vivabrigada beyond any credibility. If iNats want to listen to this shít then that's up to them but really you cannot expect people to engage with you guys regarding such blatant propaganda.

The silence on this from the political and media Establishments, North and South, has been a disgrace. Not only omerta on the threats to journalists BUT absolutely no comment or condemnation about the disgraceful, offensive comments from the Ulster Unionist dinosaur John Taylor on the murder of 15 innocent Catholics in McGurks Bar. Add to this the head burying towards Ian Paisley's Islamic insults and those of his DUP colleague Maurice Bradley. The hypocrisy and double standards of BBC, UTV, RTE, the Indo, FF, FG etc are scandalous but unsurprising.

are you saying the UDA didnt threaten a journalist ?

are you saying the UDA arent "still active", threatening & murdering people ?

or are you suggesting the UDA being "still active" is somehow acceptable .. and there should be no "faux outrage" about it ?

Maybe youre also saying that the DUP dont have any links to the UDA .. are you saying that

That wasn't part of the peace deal though - the GFA didn't require the terror outfits to disarm or disband.

That's the deal that the SDLP and SF signed up to - to allow the UDA to still exist and to keep its arms.

If nationalists don't like the UDA still being around to issue threats then nationalists need to ask themselves why they left the UDA in place and armed.

Part of the peace deal was to allow the likes of the UVF, the UDA, the PIRA and the INLA to continue to exist, and remain armed, if that's what they wished to do.

If the UDA exists that's as much the fault of the SDLP and SF as it is of any other signatory to the GFA.

If the UDA is still active that's as a result of the GFA.

That's what the SDLP and SF negotiated.
