Despite record breaking atrocious weather some 350 - 400 people, for many their first political meeting, packed out the ballroom of the Gresham Hotel for the launch of the United Left Alliance.

Great news, great turnout especially as the weather was awful. I'm down in Cork, couldn't get there but had I been in Dublin I would've been there. The election will mark the long overdue begining of the breakthrough for the left in Irish politics :) And as this 4 year plan drags on and people are increasingly impoverished and disenfranchised more and more people will recognise the shortcomings of rightwing parties and how they are complicit in sacrificing the people to bail out bankers and bondholders and more and more of the electorate will move to the left.

The sad fact is that until the ULA takes its part in the stuggle for National Liberation, it will be a side show in the history of the Irish people. I say that with great regret, as there are many fine people in both the SWP and the SP.

I'd like to see a united Ireland, acheived through peaceful means mind you and when that time comes it comes, it will come but not today or tomorrow. It's a medium to longer term aim. Native gombeens - line em up. IMF, yep get them out - the country has wealth it simply needs to be redistributed correctly. EU, I used to be a federalist years ago but now see that democracy and the protection of smaller nations can't work within the EU as we know it. The EFSF would be just about ok if given at standard ECB rates of 1.5% and only for the sovereign, not the banks.

The fact is that the continued occupation leaves the whole of the Irish people in an infantalised state. After 1916, the Irish people knew they could do anything. The treaty of surrender told them that they were a small off shore colony, who must accept that their fate was to live in the shadow of the great. If Ireland is ever to become itself, it must reject the treason and cute hoorism of Michael Collins, and adopt the uncompromising vision of James Connolly.

How do you "Liberate" the million protestants who don't want to be liberated?

You advocating a Bosnia solution?
