Why should someone who has no kids see their income fall by the same amount as someone who has five or six kids, so that child benefit can continue to be paid at the same level to said person with five or six kids ?

That is what I am asking.
Did you spring from the womb fully grown...?

you enjoyed the benefits along with your parents of the childrens allowance but you want to penalise other families.....i suggest you ask your mother as she was probably well glad of it every month...

your 'i'm all right jack' attitude is everything that is wrong with this country and sickening....

Welfare cutbacks are a question of necessity, not morality.
I only mentioned morality as he was saying that morally it was imperative that they be hit more!

I believe they should be selective - abolish some allowances rather than across the board cuts.
The difficulty with that is that (aside from the cases I've given above) is that cuts to smaller groups like large families won't be enough to get us all out of this problem ,and so will have to be supplemented with general tax increases, which will mean those families being hit on the double - despite being the least able to afford it. Tax increases, however unpalatable, are fairer than CB cuts.

A friend of mine uses his free travel to come to Dublin & elsewhere for social visits - a nice to have perk but hardly as essential as a fuel grant.
Well, I'm not sure the free public transport for pensioners actually costs the state an awful lot, but it's not something I'm as aware of.

The 5th word in the post I was replying to was 'also', What is your point, that people need a bigger car so they should get money to buy one? This is the economics of bankruptcy.
*sheesh*....

No, my point(and not a complicated one) was that, through no 'fault' of their own, their disposible income reduces drastically with twins, even with the twins allowance. I even did the sums for you.

I'm guessing this is paid to your wife and not yourself.....?

I've been reading some of your replies and you really are a spanner..

maybe we should just rebuild the slum tenements that was Dublin and other urban areas and throw large familes back into two rooms with commual toilets and wash ups...?

your taking the car argument out of context...anyway a car provides and VAT/VRT plus taxes on fuel and road tax etc.so the government gets it's cut.....

Every family with children should have either an apartment of a house big enough to house them properly...god knows there are enough lying idle...these estates could easily be finished and used except for the greed of poeple in this country.....

Its an interesting one as I suspect it is more of a subsidy to CIE than an actual cost, just like free electricity or TV licences are payments to providers rather than users. My point is that schemes need to be abolished rather than simply cutting everything by 10% or some other number.

Not everyone wants to live in Leitrim and most people provide their own accomodation.

Boo hoo - the dole lifers aka 'the most vulnerable' will have 20 quid taken from their handout each week.

18% of the people according to the most recent polls support FF. What sort of breed of absolute fool are these people? Almost 1 in 5 of eligible voters you see walking down the street are, for all intents and purposes, retards. This country is fcked and will continue to be fcked precisely because of these people and the cretins they support.
Wow, what an amazing intellectual contribution about democracy

Ever considered those who deny reality are "retards" ?

The greatest beneficiaries of the free travel are in Dublin and that parish pump has 41 attendants so it's probably one of the safer items.

I thought one of our strengths was that we had a young population that was growing.

My view is that if they cut childrens allowances that the average family unit size will fall.

My view is that 2 kids will soon be the maximum.

My view is that more families will "seperate unofficially" and the wife will claim an extra allowance as deserted spouse or whatever it is called.

10% cut and then use some of the saving to provide social welfare to the self employed that are entitled to NOTHING
You raise an important point, as it's crazy the self employed are entitled to nothing, when the lazy social parasites who have never contributed anything continue to live off their huge handouts

Democracy ? Democracy is the heresy of counting heads instead of what's in them. Anyone who is stupid enough to support Fianna Fail after they have destroyed this country socially and economically shouldn't even have the right to vote.

Fianna Fail are and always have been an evil cancer in Irish society that must be cut out and destroyed.

You and your right wing ilk are full of such arrogance Bridget.

You cannot just slash incomes like this to suit the damned bond markets.

These international financiers are the ones who have helped bring this about!

More importantly Bridget, you cannot slash incomes without slashing the cost of living first or you'll put people into food and fuel poverty comign into the winter also.

Better you used your brian and not your mouth and asked for a price ombudsman to investigate why prices for commodities are still as high as they are.

As usual, its the retailers trying to milk the last drop out of a dying ecomony before they head off back wherever they go when the merde hits the fan.

Sentiments like yours annoy the hell out of me.

Oh loosen up.

I don't see any of the opposition rushing to collapse the government, do you?

It could be done in several ways, but none of them want to take up the cudgesl, the hypocrites!

I don’t think that it is purely Fianna Fail fault.
They only unleashed greed and selfishness from rotten society, which were hidden before and gave for people chance to live under “entitled” culture, introduced by “last socialist in Ireland”
Blaming Fianna Fail is like blaming mirror at the morning after dozen pints with friends night before

The fact is that fool cowen should never have given big welfare increases during the "boom" in the first place, there was no need for anybody to be on the dole from 2004-2007 but cowen gave an extra €20 per week in all his budgets

Someone has to pay the obscene salaries of the developers and bankers and this government has decided it will be the poor, the sick and PS workers
Are you not tired to stick PS workers into every single thread
You know very well that it will be middle earners from private sector, who will pay most

Hammer I dont see this as a bad thing you should only have the number of children you can afford if thats 2 max so be it.

If our young people have no jobs and have to emigrate - how is it a strength for Ireland, for Europe perhaps.
