Zakaria seems to be ignorant of the real cause of the crisis. From Trump's inauguration and up to some weeks ago, there was no increase in illegal crossings.

Then, suddenly, it took off .... Why?

  1. Because of Trump's vicious rhetoric, people traffickers went on a marketing spree, telling people they needed to move fast before Trump closed the border completely. The result is that many who many have just been thinking about migrating suddenly too the plunge at the same time.
  2. Trump cut off aid to the countries from which the migrants were coming, making conditions worse at exactly the wrong moment.

There is a crisis all right, but it is of recent provenance, and of Trump's making.

And remember this ...

... the concentration camps on the border are just cruelty for the sake of cruelty ...

  1. Social workers can supervise migrants outside of jail
  2. Ankle bracelets are another alternative to detention
  3. ICE actually wants more alternatives to detention
  4. Indefinite detention is very expensive

Sun Valley Rice is the first American company to export rice to China and America also recently exported 600,000 tons of soybeans. The false impression that China is stable and self sufficient as portrayed by the MSM while President Trump is in delicate negotiations is not helping.

Except they don't portray China that way. Rather, the Trump Admin and its media mouthpieces prepackage these scapegoats to preserve the cult of personality ruse of his mythical incredible deal making skills.

The fundamental question, will the U.S/China trade imbalance be reduced post tariff. I believe it will, timed perfectly for 2020.

Harris poll finds by 41-32, Americans support prosecuting illegal border crossers. Blow for thoee like Julian Castro who call for decriminalisation of illegal border crossings.

So Trump insists on including a citizenship question on the census.

Let's look at the issue. A state seeks to survey its population to determine its constituents. One of these questions is about finding out how many citizens it has.

The Supreme Court of that country tells the government that it can't ask this question. The opposition claims that such a question is racialist in origin.

There seems to be a confusion in how a state works. The citizens are the owners of the state. Finding out how many there are and how they're distributed is a fair question.

The state is a manager of public affairs for the citizens not a social care provider whose population are its wards. To consider them wards is a pernicious infantilization. It's either that or a panicky response to the fear of being found out.

It's a madhouse.

Acting ICE Director Ken Cucinelli is saying that they have managed to reduce the number of children in those facilities for more than 72 hours from 2500 to around 300 after Congress provided the additional funds.
