Clinton spent a lot more than Trump, that must hurt.

His electoral college votes cost him 60% less than Hillary's ones.
Trump economics already at work. Media was use to increased buying in every Presidential cycle. Read that the projections could drop by 300 to 500 million less on media expenditure for this race.

For madame, a cool but very affordable $1,300,000,000

For monsieur, just 795,000,000

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/campaign-finance/

Total: 2,095,000,000 in entry fees

for 365x4+1 = 1,461 days in the WH = a cost to Donal Mor and supporters of $544,147 per day......
Bad economics

There's all manner of other costs ... including diversion from other matters etc ... you could probably best use some form of discounted rate for all the viewers time etc ... then some odd uplift for opportunity cost etc ...I'd say you could easily be at USD40 per hour of attention ... also of course there was non recoverable CapEx etc

Those costs are likely into the twelve figures

Fools and their money. Hill was always deeply despised and the Dems should have got a human instead.

$600m of Trump's campaign was from contributions of $200 dollars or more. That's a lot of investors to repay (with tax payers money, so he doesn't have to stiff them)

Mind you, spare a thought for the Hillary investors. $1.2bn is an obscene amount of money for a campaign that offered little vision and ignored traditional democratic states. Not visiting Wisconsin was such a basic error. "Basket of delorables" so smug a comment. Playing Trump but no his policies. Treating him and his voters as a joke.

They reckon that a new president spends most of their first year raising money for the next presidential campaign. Hilary had a campaign dinner last spring the cost of each plate was over $50.000 each.
