"The Taoiseach has told EU leaders that preparations are being made at Irish ports and airports for a no-deal Brexit"

What is the point of doing this at ports and airports if as he said a week ago that he would not implement a hard border in Ireland in the case of Hard Brexit. It doesn't take a genius how to by pass Leo's port and airport plans.

Either prepare everywhere or nowhere surely.

Can the EU take Leo seriously in anything he says? Or are they just telling him what to say on this anyway?

So, it's Leo's fault that the UK is run by a bunch of demented loons who are ready to abandon the GFA? News to me, that.

We need a hard border around Dublin to keep the bogmonsters out.

This is good to hear.

The issue with NI is complex but might be solved very rapidly around April 2019. If, as the UK's own reports suggest, that the North's food and medical supplies start running out 2 weeks after brexit, the south can win a lot of friends by rolling up in supply trucks and allowing our citizens in Ulster to get medical help in southern hospitals.

Ireland could be unified by the 2020.

from the link above..
"It would be suicidal for the Irish not to prepare for plan B," said the source.
Plan B is a situation where the UK and EU fail to agree a future together involving a comprehensive relationship similar to the current arrangements, where the UK would abide by EU regulations and is part of the customs union.
EU sources said Dublin needed to begin its preparations at ports and airports should Britain renege on its commitment to ensure a no-Border scenario remains on the island of Ireland.
This is quite funny because it would be suicidal to impose the hard border on ourselves. Its a fact that Ireland would be the hardest hit of any EU country, maybe even harder hit than the UK itself.

Ergo, Ireland is the EU's suicide bomber. We stand there beside the UK, with a grenade in our hand, finger ready to pull out the pin. We tell the UK they must concede to the demands made by Barnier or we will pull out the pin.
Eu masters watch from some distance away, behind sandbags, shouting "We are with you 100%!"

We have no choice. Our membership of the EU requires it. Letting in goods from dirty filty furreners is verboten by the EU.

People keep ignoring this fact.

Explain in unambiguous terms how the UK government is "abandoning the GFA" ..Take your time now

If anyone is ignoring the GFA its the EU ignoring the consent clause as it attempts to cleave NI from the UK

So what did Leo really mean when he said there will be no hard border. If we can't take a statement like that at face value can we believe anything he says?

Ports and airports for imports from GB. Backstop triggered so no hard border with NI. Still possibility of Irish Sea customs border.

Sounds logical enough to me.

The Germans and French want a hard Brexit...It'll be a hard Brexit.........complete with a border

It has always been obvious that everything else is pantomime

He meant that there was a narrative: "everything is in the UK camp and they need to pay and concede on demands..." and he was playing to that. (yes, lying in effect)

Including the tripe about border arrangements with a non-EU country.

But like the bankbailout , it seems delusion and fantasy is preferable for party hacks , especially those of a blue ,castle catholic , right wing persuasion

The people of the UK voted to leave the EU. Have the actions of the EU since that decision was made been in Ireland's interests?
