Eddie Shaw is on Vinnie's show, stammering and avoiding questions. Claims that as a 52 year old man he didn't understand what paedophilia was in either 1992 or 2002 (couldn't hear which). Loads of stuff on Twitter about it under #vinb.

Sorry about the vagueness - here are some choicey buts:

Refusal to answer direct questions. Assertion he didn't know what peadophilia was when he was 52 or something. Slimey one-upmanship off the back of victims by claiming you can't know what paedophilia is until you've listened to victims (like he has naturally). Won't say whether he did or didn't ask Connell if there was any truth to allegations made against the church that he was fielding press enquiries on. Oh and a bit of mud slinging at the Dublin report too.

The rest of the panel aren't even really bothering to counter him.

The idea that he didn't know what pedeofilia was in 2002 is very hard to believe.

Shocking stuff.

scary stuff indeed. he claims that the people who claim to know and to tell the rest of us what is moral or immoral were somehow mislead by legal advisors on what was the right thing to do. I would have thought that all they should have done was pay heed to their consciences if they had any that is. as for his claim that he didn't know what was involved in the sexual abuse of children until a victim spelled it out for him well I haven't the words.

and now he just said about the country that maybe it wouldn't be so bad if we got someone else to manage our affairs - fair point - but said without any irony given the shocking manner the church has managed its affairs...

The Catholic Church guy was really really poor. In that he was typical of most of the leadership of the Church.

The whole programme also showed just how poor a presenter Browne is. As usual, he went off on a tangent and spent so much time going over the same question over and over when it was obvious he wasn't going to get an answer that there then was no time left to have a serious discussion on the topic with any other panelist, and the newspaper review was crammed into the last three minutes.

He does that all the time. The contrast between him and some of the guest presenters who did his show in the summer is striking. They got the timing right, covered a number of questions, and ended up with really informative shows. Tonight's show was all-too-typical browne: stuck on one question the entire show. He really is an infuriating presenter.

If I didn't know at 54 or whatever what paedophilia was, and some journos kept ringing me about it, I'd look it up in a dictionary. My reaction then - without any hour long sitdowns with victims and abusers - would be to ring my boss and say hang on here a minute - is any of this in any way true, because if it is, I'm out of here...

That's not me being sanctimonious, or being gifted with the hindsight of some recent cultural epiphany about the horrors of child abuse. That's me being a human being.

I agree. he is utterly incapable of nailing even the biggest spoofer. he failed to finish O'Cuiv the other night even when he had dropped his hands and was just waiting for a tap to be KO'. he should watch Paxman or even some old vids of Olivia O'Leary. he might learn something.

He never said he didnt know what paedophilia was
He said he didnt realise its significance and the suffering it caused
But dont let the truth get in the way, there are far more important agendas involved ...
