First-time TD Kate O’Connell has written to Fine Gael bosses complaining about online abuse she claims to have been subjected to by a senior party figure.
The Dublin Bay South representative told a private meeting of TDs and senators that she wanted them to be aware of activity alleged to be on Barry Walsh's Twitter account.
Ms O'Connell claims that on the Twitter account of the Vice Chair of the Fine Gael Executive Council, there are a number of derogatory tweets about her and other female politicians, referring to Mary Lou McDonald and Roisin Shortall as b******.

In an unprecedented move Ms O’Connell printed out the social media posts and passed them around at last night’s meeting.
She has also written a formal letter of complaint to the Fine Gael’s General Secretary Tom Curran.

Interesting @campaignforkate discussing @barryawalsh on @PatKennyNT He’s an angry misogynist who brings nothing to the table. Prob delighted
Kate O' Connell conducted herself very well on Pat Kenny's show her main point being that it was inappropriate for a misogynist given to extreme abusive language to be allowed to tweet bile and hold a responsible position in Fine Gael which prides itself on decency.

Thoughts?

It's deeply inappropriate behaviour and needs to be dealt with.

Just listening to it on SO'R there in the car...

According to Regina Doherty it's been going on for years....

Barry Walsh was recently heckled at the FG think-in when he asked where the demand for an abortion referendum was coming from.

Kate O'Connell seems like a whingey crybaby though. Seems like she's doing the usual thing of screaming 'misogyny'.

good to see regina and co trying to proscribe freedom of speech again with the threat of leglisation against those she hasnt got the witt to block on twitter.

nice skirting from RTE as well away from the fact it seems to centre on the aul abortion issue.

still great to see FG tearing themselvs apart.

Sounds like he might be a P.ie poster, seems he's fond of personal abuse against people he dislikes, sounds like he's more trouble than he's worth.

Regina O'Doherty was talking about it at the beginning of Sean O'Rourke there. She said it wasn't a misogynist issue, that this guy Walsh is taking aim at everyone, male and female, that it has been going on for months, then corrected it and said it was going on for years and needed to be stopped. She also went as far to say the guy has mental health issues, she described him as a very angry young man then said it went further than that and he has serious issues. O'Rourke tried to contact Walsh but he's gone to ground.

I'd say Barry Walsh is definitely on Pie, probably with a load of socks which would account for a lot of w Ankers on here.

He posted here I think. I'm pretty sure I know what his username was. I don't have much sympathy for O'Connell. She's a bit of whiney, attention-seeker.

Nope. Nothing to do with misogyny, Regina said that herself. Guy's just a pr1ck. Hope he can get the mental health services he requires soon and isn't waiting a year like most folk.

Sure, it may be a big deal for some in FG but for the rest of us?
The rest of us can ignore it if we choose. Maybe consider if we need to be on a politics Forum.

As Monty Python used to say this is abuse, arguments are next door.

..and it isn't always about us snowflakes.
