Angry commentators who are getting even angrier on our behalf <br>By Victoria White | Irish Examiner

In Thursday Irish Examiner Victoria White seriously cuts the ground from under Shane Ross, Nick Webb, Fintan O Toole, Olivia O Leary and RTE for their programme last Saturday night on RTE hosted by Ballsy O Connor.

This travelling roadshow is advertising its wares, and you can hear thse experts give their remedies for the state of the country in various places for 25 euro a head and you can sip a glass of wine as well.
She also castigates Ross for his support of Fingers, Seanie Fitzpatrick, and the Quinns, (which i was not aware of until now) She rightly identifies the joke of O Leary telling O Toole what a great leader he would make - if he ran for election !

Shame is RTE allowed them promote their show and sales of their books. But well done Victoria.

Read the piece and thought she was spot on. The "Wasters" handle could be extended to cover this lot who like the limelight but not prepared to put an cogent alternative strategy together and present it to the people. But they are part of the club and will never be challenged in the way others are.

I'm not sure serving dinner while having to listen to those guys speak is a good idea. Do you get your puke bag at the door as well as your glass of overpriced plonk?

These 'rock stars of dissent' (puke) could form a band except the name Charlatans has been taken unfotunately.

Dare I say that irony is not Ms White's forte ,especially when ranting on about other people who annoy her? She also has that great Irish affliction - the right to be offended by anything.

Shooting the messengers whether you love them or loathe them isn't the answer.

Plus nobody is forcing anyone to listen to these people, pay to attend their 'talks' or pay for their books... unlike the situation we're in regarding the extortionate pay of politicians (both past and present), bankers, bondholders, civil servants and all the rest of the overpaid parasites paid with public money...

Note: Before anyone points it out I'm well aware Ross is a TD and therefore straddles the fence, but he's been exposing bullsh!t in the likes of FAS for years and long before he became a TD...

The article reeks of the usual Irish begrudgery which if it prevails will guarantee our rotten 'establishment' survives in tact to continue with 'business as usual' at OUR expense...

Not to mention the fact that the 20:20 vision hindsight the article is written with is a luxury people did not have about things they were commenting about back in the bubble...

The article is horse sh!te...

+1. Many journalists, like actors, hate seeing their comrades get airtime. Why not stretch herself and she serve up a decent fresh piece, rather than reheat the old cabbages of her opinion.

Hope the venues are empty, and plenty of food and wine left to go off.
Anyone for a protest outside ?

Real scandal is our national station was used and abused in this manner.

Nobody is shooting the messenger, primarily because the message is hard to see beyond 'buy our books in time for christmas'.

"The men and women who work in the established media in this country are very well-heeled, very well-connected and some of them are very arrogant. They don’t seem to see themselves in the mirror at all".

True that.

It goes on all the time, e.g. Mary O'Rourke, just recently.

Dies anyone ever ask Shane Ross whether he still believes Sean FitzPatrick should be head of the Central Bank?

Read her book "Party Animals", probably available in the remaindered section, for some real brown-nosing stuff.

Certainly not Ballsy O Connor or Olivia O Leary, or Tintan O Toole. But like an accountant, he would probably say " based on what my information then was "

Let's look at three of the spoofers White rightly calls on their spoofing.

Shane Ross - the man who once lauded McCreevy, Fingleton, Fitzpatrick and Quinn, four of the men most responsible for the mess we are in. Yet with a track record as spectacularly bad as that, this man is somehow hailed as an oracle today. That alone defies common sense and credulity.

David McWilliams - the genius behind the '100 per cent' bank guarantee that realed has fvcked Ireland for a generation. The man who reduces massive and complex economic and political problems to folksy yarns and simplistic slogans. And again he is lauded as an heroic, outside the box thinker. Here's a hint folks, there's a reason he's outside the box, hawking pop economics books and staging festivals - it's because few in the real world of economics and politics take him seriously.

Fintan O'Toole - an ivory tower ideologue who hurls his utopian fantasies from the ditch. Yet when he had the chance to stand for election and put his ideas to the people for judgement, he - like those other great spoofers, McWilliams and Dunphy - ran a mile from it and instead offered excuses why he couldn't stand before the people. But still he is taken seriously in some quarters. Why?

Yes, Ireland needs alternative voices and critical thinking - we are crying out for it - but these three stooges are not the voices we need. Nor will they be - ever.

I imagine you'd rate that Victoria White article higher than this effort.
I WAS pleased Fianna Fáil rose four points in the polls because I can’t stand the lies. I can’t stand the pretence that an alien tribe called Fianna Fáil came in and "ruined the country", leaving the plucky Coalition to "clear up the mess".
This is balderdash. If Fianna Fáil "ruined the country", it also built it.

If Fianna Fáil

Ms White says she's not a fan of the clientelism of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. Now she shows us her lofty distaste for angry opponents of FF and FG. Does she just miss the PDs or what?
And when will she drop the dreadfully weak ad hominem that once a public figure earns a few quid from a book, he/she can be sneered at, and told to stop being angry? That's p1ss poor stuff.

Who do you admire and respect in Irish public life?
