There is a whiff of promissory note about tonight‘s show! An exit strategy for Ireland from the bailout was the focus of talks between the Government and EU-IMF-ECB Troika lenders last week. But, attention is now this week on how to get the long-term unemployed back into employment as well as options for when Ireland plans to leave the bailout programme at the end of 2013.
Will the ECB shoulder some of the pain and stand behind the currency by intervening in bond sales, if necessary? Will the EU Commission allow Ireland to extend the terms of its bailout programme?
Attention during the Ninth Troika Mission will also turn to how banks are dealing with troubled mortgages and loans and the strengthening of the banks. The Government is required to publish bank details on "loan modifications, including re-defaults of modified loans, to permit analysis of the effectiveness of alternative resolution approaches in improving debt service performance", the deal with the Troika says.
So how are we doing? A good show is on the cards for tonight. … and with Peter Mathews back will he now answer some questions unlike his turn last week when his only contribution seemed to be to smile ? …
