Catherine Halloran, Political correspondent Irish Daily Star https://twitter.com/popcornhack
John McGuinness, FF TD Carlow-Kilkenny, Chairman PAC John J. McGuinness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brian Stanley, SF TD Laois-Offaly Brian Stanley - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Today, the Public Accounts Committee of the Oireachtas looked at and discussed how much members of the Oireachtas got in allowances. Tonight #VINB looks at how much they get for travel, accommodation and other expenses and asks how much can be justified?

Every year, some €1.5bn is paid out to Ministers, TDs and Senators in both vouched and unvouched expenses. John McGuinness, PAC Chairman, is pressing for getting rid of unvouched allowances altogether - allowances should be fully accountable as they are in private businesses.

So what are we waiting for? Why isn’t this implemented with haste. Hopefully, Vinny will ask this, and a lot more questions besides, of the two politicians on the show. Catherine Halloran is very knowable about this area so we should be in for a good if not great show tonight. Well worth viewing … :D

Oink! Oink! Oink! … are they still at the tough?

Can you get your facts right, 1.5 billion is 15 thousand million, even if we had 1000 at the trough, that would be 1.5 million each, and assuming we have about 200, are you really saying 7.5 million each?

Reform of TD's salaries and expenses needed but the subject is over-hyped by the media. Handy story on a slow day but way down the list of priority reforms.

The Examiner is just a local rag, standards of journalism are slipping across all the broadsheets but the Examiner was never a national newspaper so it is expected that quality is lacking. If they can demonstrate that every member of the Oireachtas is on circa €9m each including their salaries then I will retract all of the above!

It's not so much the amount, it's the perception that's important, if FG want to be re-elected. That's something they don't seem to be able to learn over the years.
