Sinn Féin, Fianna Fáil and the independent TDs say Budget figures should not assume the passage of Croke Park 2. Opposition parties TDs have walked out of an Oireachtas committee meeting in protest at the Government’s insistence on presenting revised figures for Budget 2013 which included the proposed savings from the Croke Park 2 deal.

Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald, Fianna Fáil’s Seán Fleming and independent TD Stephen Donnelly said they would not participate in a meeting of the Oireachtas sub-committee on Public Expenditure and Reform examining the revised figures. Oireachtas members are due to discuss the revised figures, published last week, at a series of committee meetings in the coming weeks.

This afternoon’s meeting marks the first of those meetings, when Public Expenditure minister Brendan Howlin was presenting the figures and explaining how the revised Budgets would affect State agencies falling under his remit. However, opposition TDs claimed the meetings should not go ahead – because the revised figures incorporated the €300 milion savings that would have been achieved if the Croke Park 2 deal had been accepted by public unions.

The Taoiseach has told the unions to go home and do their homework, and came up with some proposals to save Croke Park 2. So, what’s happening? Are the unions dictating Government policy now, or trying to, or is it all …well, just politics? Should be a very good show tonight … I’m expecting the gloves to be off when SF clash with FG …

Jack O’Connor’s empty pitch?

Only the dumbest of govt would proceed with, hammering public servants again for the 3rd time without meaningful negotiation......while many others carry on regardless.

For every action, there is an equal.........

It's one of the upsides of being a politician, doctors examining you via the tv.

It's funny to think that if Conor Lenihan had chosen a different profession he might not be alive today.

Nicola Cooke is rabid anti PS...seems to have lost any modicum of journalistic impartiality.

Also, she seems to have difficulty finishing her sentences; it's as though she forgets what her point was.

Lots of ems and ehs, too.

WTF is Jack O'Connor on?

The negotiations were held before the votes.

CP2 was rejected. End of.

The Government need to give CP2 it a good burial and start doing what they should have done from the outset...

If they want to brand it then let them brand it... but can we please quit continuing to give Croke Park a bad name by constantly associating it with botched 'partnership' agreements between idiot politicians and union parasites... FFS...

Does the "stimulus" element, does this mean more crony/family "advisors" for snouters?

The unions should take down Union Jack and send him back!

This is bullsh!t...

FG have double the number of TD's Labour have and therefore FG have a much stronger mandate...

It's about time they told Labour where to go...

Labour were obviously left in charge of the CP2 baby and they basically f***ed up and lost the baby when they were out shopping...

So now that Labour have shown they can't deliver, FG need to grow some balls, quit the arsing around that's plagued this government and start doing what they were given a mandate to do...
