The Association of Judges of Ireland is satisfied after holding talks with Attorney General Máire Whelan that its concerns about judicial independence are "fully understood" and that "progress will be made by mutual co-operation in resolving issues".

The Chief Justice Susan Denham announced the establishment of a new forum to resolve the difficulties between the Government and the judiciary. Along with the Chief Justice and the Attorney General, the new forum, described as a working group for renewal, will include the secretary general to the Government and other judges.

She said that the normal conduit between the judiciary and the executive was the Attorney General. "That avenue of contact continues as a positive and proper route," she said. However, she also said it was clear new structures were needed. Ms Justice Denham paid tribute to the energy and commitment of the judges of Ireland, saying they showed an enormous willingness to change and to accept more work with fewer resources.

So, was this all just a storm in a teacup, or was Judge Peter Kelly right to raise the matter? A good discussion is on the cards for tonight’s show. Could be very interesting, as they say in legal circles …

What would you like Vinny to discuss? I'll ask him if he can change ... :D
So many things and such a short time. :) TD/senator/El Presidente salaries - why are they so high? Why hasn't Labour walked yet? Why haven't the people responsible for the bubble been stripped of their pensions and salaries? Why is the undecided demographic now larger than any political party in the polls? Perhaps people are tired of the Latte Liberal panels with non-entities and snouters. What happened to the fireworks that used to be seen before the last GE?

Too late to change for tonight's show ... but he thinks your suggestions are worth consideration. And would you be willing to go on the show?

Vinnie's hair could do with a brushing. He looks like a pussycat tonight. All grey and fluffy and miaowing in between every word.

The key question is whether the next raft of judges are all FG/Lab or have some non party people, that's the litmus test for Shatter

Of course they are. But if he has to consider me as a guest then the show really has some problems. :)
