It’s no surprise really that it’s a naval gazing night tonight as Vinny looks at the developments at Thomas Crosbie Holdings and the wider crisis in the newspaper industry following today‘s developments.

Kieran Wallace of KPMG has been appointed receiver to Thomas Crosbie Holdings. Most of the assets have now been bought by a new company, Landmark Media Investments Ltd, backed by Tom Crosbie and his father Ted who were shareholders in TCH.

The new company has bought:
* Irish Examiner
* Evening Echo
* Waterford News and Star
* Wexford Echo
* Carlow Nationalist
* Kildare Nationalist
* Laois Nationalist
* Western People
* Roscommon Herald.
And also intends to buy radio stations
* WLR
* Beat 102 FM
* Red FM
which are subject to the approval of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Tomorrow the High Court will be petitioned to appoint an interim examiner to the Sunday Business Post, which is part of TCH with the intention is to sell the newspaper as a going concern. A subsidiary of TCH, which manages printing on behalf of the group, put into liquidation, with the expected the loss of 12 jobs.

The plan is being backed by AIB, which is the main lender to the media group, will also put new investment into the new company. Tom Murphy, CEO of Landmark Media Investments, said the restructuring represented "an important opportunity for the Irish Examiner and associated titles and media to make a fresh start and that is very welcome news."

So, we should have a very lively debate tonight on the #VINB. Wonder will Eamon Ryan be most concerned about the number of trees being used for newsprint? …

Why is Eamon Ryan on the show? Couldn't Vinnie get a real politician or TD? :)

Apparently it's something about sinking ships anyway, Norm's got a maritime theme....:)

It will make Vinnie feel a bit better about his own magazine(s) going t1ts up if the whole thing can be attributed to a "crisis" in the print media.....

The reason your wife is raging with you, and you've had to sell the family home you've had for 25 years has nothing to do with you personally, Vinnie, it's just that the tide is going out on the whole print journalism lark,what with the new Twitter machines and everything....

So Vinnie had magazines fail. Noirin Hegarty had the Tribune fail. Eamon Ryan had the Green Party fail to get elected. These people really are experts on failure. :)

I feel sorry for the ordinary workers, but we honestly won't miss much with these publications gone.
