Vincent Browne forgot to turn up to court today but was fined in his absence. He received a €300 fine for holding a mobile phone in his hand while driving.

That is a good start. They need to fine more of these drivers for using their mobiles while driving.

Journalist and broadcaster Vincent Browne was fined €300 in his absence today when he forgot to turn up to court to face prosecution for driving a car while holding a mobile phone.

Judge Alan Mitchell ordered that the fine must be paid within three months otherwise the host of TV3's flagship current affairs programme will be jailed for five days in default.

Gloat why don't ya. I see loads of people driving and using their phones at the same time nearly every day.. if there was a thread started on all of them it would surely block up this site.

Refreshing to see that Vincent didn't ask,or look for it to be quashed.
There are still one or two decent ones left.:)

Vincent should be fined for the nonsense he wrote in the Politically Correct Irish Times for years.

Vincent Browne is anti the interests of the Irish people and his constant berating of Fianna Fáil and the troika proves this. He is a member of the elite from Dalkey.

Surely Vinnie will opt for the 5 days to show his solidarity with the downtrodden and marginalised?

Vinnie in hot water again.

Just as well that it wasn't in the papers the day he gave Ming the awful savaging on his show, blowing the Merciless One totally out of the water

Not that there is any comparison between paying your fine and seeking to have it quashed..

Still, Vinnie, you shouldn't be at that carry-on. You could cause an accident...

Slightly off-topic but...

Approximately two weeks ago the Irish government and other members of the €urozone, along with the ECB and the Commission decided to breach the Cypriot Constitution and Article 1 of the First Protocol of the European Convention on Human Rights....

Previous to that the Irish government had also breached the Irish constitution in relation to referendum funding...

Not one 'banker' brought to justice after almost 5 years...

Much more damage can and will be done by their actions yet where are the fines?

It is mild nonsense compared to the IT's economic commentary....

FG have Fitzie in reserve ,they bring him into Greystones for "questioning"* and then Baldy comes along the next day and tells the taxpayer what new way they're going to be paying bankers debts this month.

In any event banks are more powerful than Governments.
