Absolutely riveting stuff on the Right Hook, Newstalk 104 now. Georgey, to his credit, has stayed out of a major verbal fracas between Michael D and some American, the latter accusing Michael D of being a Hamas luvvie and implying he was anti semitic, and Michael D, also losing it, calling your man a w-nker, tea party header and Obama hater, or words to that effect. Best radio I've heard in a long time. It's in the Kingshead pub in Galway, used to drink there in my college days. The boys, if you pardon the Kingshead pun are really losing their own heads now. Tune in, both are very effective, if more than a little O.T.T.

The yank is a rightwing talkshow shock jock, Hook has him on regularly. He's one of those that thinks the word "socialist" means the same as "mudderfocker".

Michael D Higgins calls Michael Graham a W**er on Newstalk

Did anybody hear it? Heated stuff with Higgins tearing into the US shock jock for his views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Higgins completely lost it - riding far too high on his high-horse - a complete nutter if there ever was one
Calling Michael Graham a wánker does not auger well for his presidential campaign as some basic diplomatic skills are essential for that job.
Higgins never addressed the points directly and continuously resorted to personal attaks on Graham

I quite like Michael D but he didn't come off well at all.

Higgins was once part of the 2003 "Save Saddam" campaign after all that every left liberal who hated America supported.

If Michael D was elected President and say Jeb Bush, Romney or heaven help us even Palin was elected in 2012 would he refuse to meet them if they visited Ireland?

Wouldn't it be great to have a Prez with a spine, unlike the current waffler.

Cringe worthy stuff from Michael D. He doesn't seem too cofortable having his views challenged.

I cant see how he could, his job would be to represent Ireland, if our current president can go over to Saudi Arabia (and talk awful sh1te about how we were supposedly 'shocked' by the Danish cartoons), then I fail to see how he could refuse to meet any of the above. If he did, he should step down.

I'm no fan of Mary Mc, but she does the vapid stuff well. Michael D. Has too much baggage.

Same with the right wingers such as yourself. It's the castrated centrists you have to worry about.
I'm quite willing to have my ideas challenged and am not afraid to admit when I am wrong.

Excellent stuff from Michael D Higgins.
Agreed - I had never heard him speak for any length of time before - he seems like quite a bit smarter than the american guy, who really didn't have much more than soundbites as Higgins pushed for information, it was clear the debate was "lots of ships with weapons", "which one?"...."eh there are loads of ships", etc.,. etc.

The american isn't too bad typically as a shock-jock type - but he really only exists to take an extreme opposite viewpoint of whatever is being discussed. I think his comments on Obama are correct even though his Middle East arguments are weak. Obama *has* massively increased US debt, while other economies are locked into it and therefore supporting it, and will massively hike taxes or compsulory insurance payments for a lot of people already struggling. They way he went about it was to not demand public healthcare but rather another revenue stream for insurance companies, now with the force of law. Just like Ireland will be with pensions in a few years.
