Was Nairac Present At Kingsmills Massacre?

Interesting article in yesterday's News Letter (not often I say that). Controversial victims' campaigner Willie Frazer has met with the Historical Enquiries Team regarding its ongoing enquiry into the Kingsmills shootings, which claimed the lives of ten Protestant millworkers as they travelled home from work on a dark night in January 1976.

With the HET planning to arrest suspects the enquiry is far from concluded but nonetheless some interesting tit-bits have emerged, not the least of which is confirmation that the man who directed the ambush spoke with a distinct English accent. Frazer believes that this figure may have been British Army Captain Robert Nairac who was subsequently abducted and murdered by a group of south Armagh republicans.

Frazer has previously stated his belief that Nairac had managed to infiltrate the IRA by passing on information about local members of the security forces - including some of Frazer's own relatives - who were involved in a 'counter-gang' he was working with. This theory is corroborated by the affadavit of former RUC sergeant John Weir who was himself a member of such a counter-gang. A republican informant, Packy Reel, told Weir how Nairac was present at IRA meetings. Testimony from Tory MP Patrick Mercer relates how Nairac was able to drink in pubs in Crossmaglen while in uniform, providing further evidence that the IRA found him useful.

It seems that loyalists and nationalists, who have long suspected that Nairac was involved in the attack on the Miami Showband, have found a common villain. Captain Robert Nairac remains one of the most enigmatic characters of the Troubles.

Adds: the above linked info is summarised in this excellent article by Liam Clarke. Fascinatingly Nairac even told a close friend in England that he had infiltrated the IRA to such an extent that he had become a commander. Was he telling the truth?

Funny then how the IRA killed him and desecrated his body. This is just an attempt to take some heat off the IRA ethnic cleansers.

Desecrating bodies is British thing so I thought you would approve that Tomas...Nothing like cutting the ears of kids you have freshly butchered for a souveiner or the emptying your rifle into the skulls of the deceased to prevent their families' having a proper funeral as your beloved British Army knows only to well, eh Tomas?

A drunk IRA man, Liam Townson, killed Nairac. The IRA did not kill Nairac.

Those who abducted him were not IRA men, knew nothing about his activities and were acting off thier own bat. They got Townson from a pub, carried out a farcical interrogation and then Townson shot Nairac.

There is no doubt that an IRA unit carried out the Kingsmills massacre - but was it commanded by Robert Nairac? It is by no means as fanciful as it sounds.

I was looking forward to reading this and then I see you are relying on information from willie frazer. FFS, is there anyone more unreliable?

Where and when did these things happen, or are they just another of your sick fantasies?

Corroborated on this occasion by several others. It is telling that Frazer is prepared to believe something so appalling about a decorated hero of the British Army.

The fact of the priests making the kids for the British soldiers but not for the IRA volunteers only seems out there to a bigot like yourself....

I met an ex British policman in Corfu Greece in the 80s who was in the British army during the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya in the 50s. He told me some horrific things about what they done to Kenyan villagers. Beheadings, Body mutilations, Rape etc etc. He took out some photos to show me some of the things they done, i walked away from him shaking and disgusted that humans could do that to one another
