What key battlegrounds will GE 2020 be fought over?

I reckon Howlin is safe, but if Kehoe doesn't get elected he is absolutely nailed on. Because Kehoe is the FG standard-bearer in the south of the county, some would naturally go his way, and any surplus left with D'Arcy would then be very inclined towards him would again be a southern vote that would go towards Howlin.

My general view on Wexford is that of the sitting TDs, a seat has to go further south.

There are only really two ways it could happen
- One of the FF TDs losing out to one of their party running mates
- A FG TD (probably Kehoe) to lose out and one of the other candidates from further south to take it. Carthy would have looked best placed, but not running in the by-election will have given Murphy and Codd a boost. If the B&A opinion poll was credible you couldn't rule out FF taking three.

Pensions seems to have caught everyone by surprise, despite being a primary concern for the most powerful voting lobby.

Regina Doherty is truly an idiot, but the worst kind - an incompetent idiot with the keys to the safe - and she's made a balls of this.

It's a litte ironic that we find out today that the next batch of "retiring" TDs will walk away with a pot of €22m in pension funds while they spent their last 5 years planning to screw over the people who're paying this.

No they won't.

I presume you're taking that from the idiot article in today's Indo. If you read it again you'll see that it says that's what their pensions would cost if bought in the private market, but they're not being bought in the private market so the claim is a nonsense.

It's the same as saying that your Fiesta is worth €250k because that's what it would cost if it was a Ferrari.

OP

What do people think the key battlegrounds will be for the coming election?

//

What do actually people actually think the important issues for the GE campaigns should be?

Ultimately the hang-over of austerity, for which both FF and FG were to blame, but FF will emerge with better-sounding proposals.

Even tho the eu will still be OK-ing our budgets in advance....

There are no Dail pension pots. Like all public service pensions, Dail pensions are paid from current revenues as and when they arise. This eliminates the need for pension pots and makes them cheaper to fund.

you walked in
you said good morning
you presented your ballot card
they used a ruler and pen to put a line through your name
they gave you the paper
you went to the discreet voting area
you used the pencil to vote

did you find that place wobbly as you wrote the numbers on the paper ?

not just when you voted but when other people at the same area voted as well ?
