I remember at the time Bertie said 23 out of the 25 Eu then members basically asked him to become president before Barroso got the gig. it beggars the question what was the odd country out, presumably as we would have been one of the 2 it was then only 1. Mind you the talk was so and so couldn't get the job because he/she was a frederalist while another couldn't get it because (s)he wasn't one. So you can see the obvious attraction, the bould Bertie had, as he believes in absolutely nothing, he could be all things to all people! Also at the time Joe Duffy did a liveline special on should he go or should he stay, overwhelmingly the Paddys wanted him to stay here as the national Don. Well he wouldn't take it anyway as he's a homebird, often it was said flying straight into Beldonnel after an EU meeting to catch the Limo back to Drumcondra rather than spend a night away from Val Joyce on the radio and sundry other home comforts. Weren't we so lucky to have him?

Folks sorry about the mispelling in the headline question, I'm in an internet cafe with Hidi/Urdu script on the keyboard, which is confusing. The question again is What State Would The EU Be In Now Had Bertie Become Commission President As Was Heralded At The Time?

No one was laughing when that clown was the national Don, of course the joke ended up on us, in particular those least able to take it and in time their grandchildren!
