"Some debate that notion, with Ahern himself arguing that the likes of Cork and Galway, Waterford and Limerick show that size doesn’t matter".

Ahern was only after one thing and that was votes in Dublin for himself and the FFers.

Ahern was a soccer chav, backwards and forwards to Old Trafford, give a little speech to the Paddys there, promise them the earth in return for cold, hard cash, Ahern cared little for the GAA, for the last 10 years he keeps away from Croker as the level of deserved abuse he receives scares him and rightly so.

We'll be seeing a lot more of these poor nuns and brothers scramming with enough loot to make a decent retirement for the order, and bollocks to the poor.

The De La Salles did exactly that some years ago. Sold up and got out and bought a nice retirement mansion in the UK for themselves. No hole in the pension pot for these people.

It is what mr jesus would undoubtedly have done. It is the leading edge of a flood of such departures, in my opinion, and of course the cowardly Irish state still afeared of the voodoo will watch them do it, then play the stupid card when it turns out that a load of land and other assets in Ireland will end up in the ownership of trusts connected to the relevant orders' chapter houses in Rome.

Entirely predictable, easily foreseeable, and yet one more good reason to move on these orders' assets now.

Otherwise the state will end up dealing with lawyers in Italy when it comes to assets, and we'll be back to the absentee landlord days.
