Who is the Senator that Fionnan Sheehan would not name on Pat Kenny?

Earlier on Today with Pat Kenny Fionnan Sheehan referred to a Senator who apparantly displayed an amazing amount of ignorance about our present economic state by not even knowing that it was the EU Commission that was demanding that we meet the 3% of GDP deficit target by 2014.

Fionnan Sheehan said he would not name the Senator to save him/her the embarrassment but that the exchange was on the Seanad record yesterday. When asked by Pat as to what panel the Senator was elected on he stated the Education Panel.

There are 5 members of the Education and Cultural Panel - 3FF, 1FG and 1Labour.

So who was it?

One of the FF's would be my guess. the other 2 have a relatively high profile and would expect them to be more up to speed.

Alex White said yesterday

I am willing to concede the four-year programme mentioned by the Minister and announced by the Government which is intended to be published in November could offer us a very useful opportunity to debate, perhaps in this House, the various options facing the country.

White came across as thinking the Four Year Plan was a govt idea, not a Commission one.
Even if that were true, it's a bit of a stretch to infer that he doesn't know that the 3% GDP deficit target came from the EU Commission.

I reckon there is more than one oireachtas member who this could apply to. There are a lot of members who keep under the radar when it comes to these issues and get re-elected time and time again based on menial work done at constituency level.

But we're talking about Senators here - they don't do constituency work (with the exception of the Robber Baron of Kilcrohane who minds a constituency that is 250 miles away from his residence.)

Most Senators do constituency work. The whole point for them is to get back into the Dail. We have two of them here in Cork South Central plus five TDs who we elected which is like having seven TDs. They hold clinics keep constituency offices etc.

We are effectively paying him to be a full time candidate in a constituency which declined to elect him.
