The US rescue of Europe mission would have come regardless of Dunkirk.
Don't be so silly.
The Yanks were too chicken to get involved until they knew the British would not be defeated.
A surrender at Dunkirk would have been a severe blow.

So now the Americans are cowards according to our resident OO spokeschild.

You expect Coveney and others to suggest a baseline to the UK? One that would establish a position from which the UK could extract further concessions?

That ain't the way it works.
Exactly. Negotiation 101 - anchor the other side's expectations at the extreme end of your acceptable deal range so they come closer to you. And it worked, they did, hence the Withdrawal Agreement.

Not our fault that British politics is such a clusterf€ck of factions and deranged interests, with the DUP and the ERG having leverage far disproportionate to their numbers, and a Euroskeptic opposition leader ignoring the majority of his own party and indeed, by some accounts, the majority of the population. Insane that it has got to this point, no other British parliament in history would have let it get to this point.

The EU is not trustworthy in any way, shape or form. After Britain, they dislike Ireland and are actively working against us. Look at our treatment in the bank bailout, their attempts to scupper our tax sovereignty etc. The EU politicians are not Ireland’s friends.

They certainly worked hard to avoid the fray. That's fair enough, but look up America First. They were bombed into both wars, slumbering until prodded with a sharp stick. They made money from both, too. I think that the UK finally settled the bill in 2006 or some time around then.

Anyone suggesting the US entered WWII to help defeat the Nazis and save Europe is best avoided.

Well brains, if the Germans had gained control of the British Isles, where would the Yanks have staged this "rescue " mission from?

Given that it took 2 years to build up the men and material on a friendly place before they could invade France?

U boats based in Ireland would have made it impossible to get a force in place.

Just more balls from yourself.

The EU has Britain over a barrel.

The EU knows it.
Britain knows it.

In order to begin Trade Deal talks, Britain has 2 options :

(i) Sign up to the WA now pre-Brexit

OR

(ii) Sign up to the WA later post-Brexit.

A hard border will be required, if we dont have one with NI we risk having one imposed on our exports and travel to the rest of the EU

Sounds like you're right...

Details of the call, contained in a leaked diplomatic note, emerged as Juncker’s deputy, Frans Timmermans, said there had been no weakening of the resolve in Brussels in support of Ireland, and accused the Tory Brexiters of a “cavalier” approach to peace.

“Let me be extremely clear: there is no way I could live in a situation where we throw Ireland under the bus,” Timmermans said. “As far as the European commission is concerned, the backstop is an essential element for showing to Ireland and to the rest of Europe that we are in this together.”

Juncker is even more retarded than I thought.
The backstop veto would force all or some (NI) of the UK to remain in the EU customs union.
In return for giving up that veto, he wants all of the UK to remain in the EU customs union.

That not an improved offer. Its a fook off wave.
Hard Brexit and Hard Border will be the default result of no deal.
If Juncker can't have it all his way, he will let it go to that. Just out of spite.
