Why not restore the one party state we had in celtic tiger times?

Why are all the media calling for Enda Kenny's resignation? Unlike his predecessors he did not bankrupt the country. His government helped to save this country from the calamity of the collapse of 2010. One has just to look at Greece to see what could have happened.

If the country had not been bankrupt by the decisions of a small number of its own most powerful citizens during the celtic tiger time Kenny would not ever be Taoiseach and we would still have the celtic tiger government in power.

That is because the then government had the approval of the media in general during the whole celtic tiger period. In fact we had a virtual one party state then. Now the same media want the return to power of that celtic tiger government and that one party state.

Apart from the anti-Kenny campaign the anti-austerity campaign since 2010, the trivialised and personalised coverage of political affairs during the recent election are all part of that agenda. The fact that, as a result, the country is now virtually ungovernable with a minority government helps that agenda no end.

So instead of just getting rid of Kenny why not go the whole hog. Have an election and get rid of the present government if that will better help in the pursuit of the agenda of restoring the celtic tiger government and the one party state?

There may be serious problems facing the country but what has that got to do with it?

The fact that there were even more serious problems facing the country did not matter to the media popularity of the government back in celtic tiger times.

We were bankrupt partly because of the ingrained cronyism and corruption that was allowed to fester. Something Enda continued with. If memory serves me correct, there was screaming in 2011 for FF to go. Hardly surprising that the same call is being repeated for Enda and co to do the same.

The point is that the government in celtic tiger times was re-elected a number of times and would have been re-elected again and again and still be in power if the collapse had not happened.

The reason for that is they had the unquestioned support of the media to the extent that we had a virtual one party state.

The same would apply if any other crowd got re-elected continuously.

A one party state is not in the interest of this democratic republic.

Its certainly true that FFs friends in the media have won the image war.

But to be sure as the Healy Rae's might say "They never losht it".

What was most impressive while doing that is persuading people FG were worse than FF because they just repeated Denis O Brien's name all the time because he was constantly associated with FG in the media even though its FFers he puts on the boards of his companies.

Fair play to FF they really know how to use the stupidity of the Irish people for the party's benefit.

Most of the media coverage about Enda's supposed bad week starts with coverage of the rebuke from Arlene Foster - really?? Last time I looked Arlene was leader of a dysfunctional state within a state, totally dependent on handouts and yet her party actively campaingned for Brexit. Now they are up ************************ creek without a paddle and the offer of help from the 'free state' would have been welcomed if they weren't so bigoted. My point is that Enda isn't any more dull this week that any other - hardly a resigning matter.

I'd have thought that it was more to do with the people voting for the same party to be in government over and over again.

People often bring up this accusation of "one party state" when the outcomes of elections don't suit their views. It's stupid. If there are elections then it's the people who are putting this party in government time after time.

Maybe we could get Baby Brutal to deliver an economic plan like he had up his sleeve in 2007.
Make the "Bubble Boomier" was the cry delivered in his theatrical style by the well groomed Blue Shirt.

It's not a one party state if there are elections.

You may not like the fact that this party ended up in government time after time, but as you say yourself they were "re-elected a number of times". That's one possible outcome of having elections - that the same party ends up in government time after time.

What are you advocating? That it would be better if a party that wasn't able to get enough actual votes to form a government was put in government from time to time, in some deluded attempt to provide balance? How would that be democratic?

Media are the most powerful institution in a democracy.

The influence nay they decide public opinion.

Celtic tiger governments had the support of media in spades.

Quotes from celtic tiger media:

'Every day and in every way things are getting better and better. There is virtually no downside'

'Awash with cash'

The opposition were declared 'stupid' for suggesting curtailing public spending.

Remember government spending trebled during the celtic tiger with the consequences we still endure.

The opposition almost never suggested curtailing public spending, see the bold Enda's pretty miserable appearance at the banking inquiry for proof of that.

The only question of any consequence regarding Enda, if you disregard his lying, would be is he any good at the job of political leadership and the answer is he's not.
