I heard Michael Noonan complaining that Widows' Pensions are not protected from cuts as are Old Age Pensions.

This got me thinking: Why do we pay widows or widowers pensions at all?

How is a widow or widower any more in need than a single person?

Because with the death of a partner, your income has just halved, or a lot more, usually.

Ill let my Mother answer that question for you with the rolling pin, shall I?

Most single people who lose their jobs lose half or a lot more of their income.

You don't say. When you loose your job, you get social welfare. When you loose a huge amount of income via death of a partner, you get social welfare.

OP,

I'm 36 years old and living on a widow's pension. I have two children, one with an autistic spectrum disorder.

I've been hit pretty hard in this budget already, and now you want to take my income from me?

Thanks..
