Wikileaks: How many governments will fall?

Watching Jon Stuart the other night I was surprised by his argument that Wikileaks doesn't matter. Its not telling us anything new about America, he pointed out.

The Cablegate leak was never going to be about America. Its biggest scandals will be in other countries as we learn what they have been telling the US and not telling their own citizens. Several country's governments now look shaky:

Italy - Silvio was already wounded and now have been showing to be taking backhanders from Putin.

Lebanon - A very dangerous situation made much worse.

Wikileaks: U2 spy flights targetting Hizbullah fuels tensions | World news | The Guardian

North Korea - What will they do now that they learn China is conspiring to unify them with the south?

Who else? Might something interesting come out when the Dublin Embassy cables are released?

Not really. NK couldn't care less about a webleak which hardly any of their citizens will know about. The Italians know - and have known for years - that Berlusconi is a corrupt knave and don't seem to mind all that much. As for Lebanon, it is perenially unstable.

Didn't stop FIFA handing the 2018 World Cup to "one of the most corrupt countries in the world" (and that's some achievement), Russia.

As for the US - most Yanks don't give a toss about the opinions of the rest of the world so why should we care what they say about us!

Interesting. Someone interviewed on the radio by Kenny a few days ago said he had done a search to see if Ireland was mentioned in the leak and said he couldn't find anything. Perhaps he meant anything significant.
They have only released a few hundred of the 250,000 cables so far, and only one of the 1000s from the Dublin Embassy. Unless the 'someone' on Kenny works for Wikileaks or the Guardian, he doens't have access to the unrelased cables and ofcourse will not find them.

By the way, the Guardian website seems to be down, or is it just me?

What a pathetic charge to trump up against Assange -Sex without a condom!

Lawyer: Sweden investigating Assange for sex without condom | Raw Story

You have to wonder what leverage the US has over Sweden.
If he is in Britain, there's no way that a court will entertain such an extradition request because, as far as I'm aware, a man's failure to use a condom is not a basis for a rape investigation. Furthermore, the European Court of Human Rights would also frown upon such a law.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out in Lebanon, due to the WikiLeaks. It seems Lebanon's defense minister offered US officials advice on how Israel could defeat Hezbollah in a future war.

Wikileaks: Lebanon advised on how to defeat Hizbullah

First Arab countries asking America to attack Iran and now the Lebanese government offering advise on how to defeat hezbollah. And then we have the UN report on the assassination of Lebanon's PM due shortly and it's predicted that it is going to lay the blame for the killing at Hezbollah's door.

The whole point of this is just to discredit Assange's character. If this is the best the US can manage the man is squeaky clean!

Wouldn't be hilarious if any communications between the US and Sweden pushing for a prosecution for the non use of condoms appear on wikileaks!petunia
