Daniel martin won the Liege- Bastogne race yesterday. Watched an interview on tv last night, not RTE, but when listening to the sports news this morning, the seemed to be no mention. I'm sure a telephone call showing our support for an succeeding Irish athelite would have been easy to do.
I totally understand the dominance of English soccer, but a player bighting another, please. We do not have a lot of sports achievement, so should we not celebrate Daniel's win even more. He might even give us cause to smile during the tour.

Irish man cycles slightly faster than some other men.. a nation celebrates...

Far too much "sport" on TV/radio already.

Yeah, I saw that on the website but it's rated well down, below several English Premiership stories. A bit strange......

Wow. That is one of the one-day Classics! Martin also won the tour of Catalunya recently.

RTÉ Sport is too obsessed with the Premiership (and horse-racing)

It's more deserving of coverage than:
VASTLY OVERPAID FOOTBALL PLAYER BITES VASTLY OVERPAID FOOTBALL PLAYER.

RTE don't cover stories that happen in faraway places like Belgium or France or Germany.

Beside the Paris-Roubaix it is THE classic to win. These races are the central plank of what makes a truly great cyclist, the Grand Tours are a spectacle but these ones separate the talent on a different level - if anyone saw the race yesterday they would have seen how, e.g., the Sky team was pulled apart even after they tried to control the race, 260km in 6 hrs 40 is an immense pace with over 4,200 meters of elevation gain.

I'd have said cycling isn't exactly flavour of the month what with the Lance Armstrong story etc.

Who's interested in steroid pumped cyclists winning races, like one would expect steroid pumped cyclists to do?

Hmmmm.

Have to say had never heard the suggestion in post 10.

It was a great achievement, it should be headlining Irish sports news yesterday and today.

Did Des Cahill not mention him this morning. Or was he too busy talking about 'The Pool' and 'Villa' and 'City'? And when the EPL borefest finishes, he will enthrall us all over the Summer with edge of the seat bulletins regarding Nosher Smith's transfer from Grimsby to 'Albion'.

Oh dear Eoin, you have no clue and now look a bit silly. Two seconds on google would wise you up re Dan Martin, Team Garmin and doping. At least one sport is moving in the right direction. The rest have their heads in the sand.

Cycling looks a bit silly Mayoman, it's been taking everyone for mugs for years.

Jaysus, I remember that! Imagine some BBC presenter claiming to be a 'passionate' (no less ) supporter of Cobh Ramblers or whatever the Irish equivalent of Rochdale is?

Professional cycling is like professional wrestling, a drug-riddled grotesque sideshow that has nothing to do with real sporting achievement.
