The world's richest 1% swallowed up 82% of the wealth created last year

THE WORLD’S RICHEST 1% raked in 82% of the wealth created last year while the poorest half of the population received none, Oxfam said, as the world’s elite prepared to mingle at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“The people who make our clothes, assemble our phones and grow our food are being exploited to ensure a steady supply of cheap goods, and swell the profits of corporations and billionaire investors,”said Byanyima.

‘Reward Work, Not Wealth’ reveals how the global economy enables a wealthy elite to accumulate vast fortunes while hundreds of millions of people are struggling to survive on poverty pay.

Billionaire wealth has risen by an annual average of 13 percent since 2010 – six times faster than the wages of ordinary workers, which have risen by a yearly average of just 2 percent. The number of billionaires rose at an unprecedented rate of one every two days between March 2016 and March 2017.
It takes just four days for a CEO from one of the top five global fashion brands to earn what a Bangladeshi garment worker will earn in her lifetime. In the US, it takes slightly over one working day for a CEO to earn what an ordinary worker makes in a year.
It would cost $2.2 billion a year to increase the wages of all 2.5 million Vietnamese garment workers to a living wage. This is about a third of the amount paid out to wealthy shareholders by the top 5 companies in the garment sector in 2016.
Every year wealth inequality grows and the gap widens. Capital and the capitalist class continue to find new and enhanced mechanisms to super exploit the majority of the world population. Union density in the Global South as well as the Western world is in all time crisis and workers rights even in the West continue to be chiseled away. Every year sees increased poverty, misery and poverty.

The numbers do not lie, so what is to be done?

Its disgusting.

But unless there are global agreements against tax avoidance/evasion, there is no way to properly redistribute this wealth. We should tax it, and use the proceeds on a Marshall Plan for Africa so its people wont need to emigrate to the West to become cheap labour slaves for the 1%.

So whats the solution ..Pay everybody the same whether they work or not....Wonder how that would turn out..

More luck to the 1% if they willing to get off their asses and earn it

Until people see through their method of social control by having the populations divided and fighting along lines of gender, race and religion we are knackered.
Keep the plebs fighting amongst themselves and they can do what they want. Once we are united, then they are knackered.

You mean 1% created and generated 82% of the additional global wealth while the other 99% added sweet fanny Adam. And your point it?

Why Ireland Is Warmly Welcomed In Davos | Broadsheet.ie

'And don’t worry – our reputation will be kept intact.

We will put our best face out for the global elite. There won’t be any mention of the deep inequality in wealth in Ireland. Where the wealthiest top 10% hold over half (53.8%) of all of Ireland’s wealth while the bottom half of the population have just 4.9% of the wealth. Nor will there be mention of the income inequality resulting from the very high rates of low pay in our workforce. 105,000 people who are working are living in poverty – the “working poor”.

Nor will there be mention of one of the most social corrosive and damaging issues which is given very little consideration – our high poverty rates – which are still double what they were prior to the crash in 2008.

The proportion of our population (8.3%) in consistent poverty is double the 2008 rate. And for our most vulnerable –lone parent families and their children – a quarter (24.6%) of them are in consistent poverty (up from 16.6% in 2009).

Don’t worry, neither the Irish Ministers nor the compliant media will embarrass you by mentioning the 790,000 people in Ireland who are living on an annual income below €12,358 (60% of the national median income – who are defined as being ‘at risk of poverty’.'

Its a very important little lump though. Not to be confused was ass flesh or the matter that makes up flabby handlebars or additonal chins. Or finely honed pecs either for that matter.
