Browsing on the Christmas Music thread last night, a poster linked to this as a Christmas offering which I duly watched and 'liked' I have to admit. But I wondered afterwards why it was going viral.

What do you think?

Could this really deserve to be a No. 1?

He's no Richie Kavanagh but he'll do well on the C&W circuit.

And no I would not buy it ever!

Is is supposed to be funny? It's rather like My Lovely Horse in terms of cheap and obvious cheeziness but the lack of context makes it hard not to think that he's just a bit simple

Nah, talk to the Cookie Monster.

I mentioned it to the Queen this morning, and she gave it the thumbs up as well.
What Queen? England? Who gives a fikkety fock what that ancient inbred vampire squid 'thinks'?

It sort of like a Blue Peter song. Little kids would like it I'm sure.

Some of the YouTube comments are quite good.

[Ultan's infatuation with the New romantic movement is clear from the opening line, 'It's that time of year again, the nights are getting cold.' Clearly a nod to synth-pop God Philip Oakey and the opening cuplet of The Human League's Life on your own; 'Winter is approaching, there's snow upon the ground.' The tartan is a tip of the hat to Spandau Ballet's early years of sartorial elegance and the feyness a homage to George Michael. Little surprises around every corner but nothing dangerous.]

It's fairly naff in fairness but there is a market for it out there, for little kids and the eoin mclove granny brigade...

Personally I was trying not to chuckle...but then I thought he was actually deadly serious.

In which case, go for it!

It's not for me though....

He's a poor enough singer. No life, no joy in his voice.

Does everything have to be ironic nowadays?

This is not sh1t 'good in a sh1t way' sh1t but simply sh1t as in 'sh1t in a sh1t way' sh1t.

To sum up, it's sh1t.

On the basis that if you've nothing good to say, say nothing.

No actually that's not true, the man made the effort and fair dues to him for that.
